Last I heard, Elfman was still on the "never gonna happen" train. Apparently it has something to do with his hearing and how noisy they were/would be on-stage.

I feel like we’re all stumped by who the third headliner could be, but I also feel like all the possibilities I hear floating around are standard rock/punk type acts.

(Besides RTJ) what hip hop/rap artists do we think would make good Riot Fest headliners at this point? Is Tyler the Creator too big for Riot now? Would Black Star be too small to headline? What other options could you guys see if riot were to go that route this year?

I personally feel Tyler is too big for Riot, his stage production at Lolla was huge and I think he had the same one during his headline tour.

Size wise, I can see A$AP Rocky (he headlined Summer Smash last year which also takes place at Douglass) or Chance The Rapper

Tyler the Creator is not headlining Riot Fest, he literally headlined Lollapalooza and just played (sold out?) the United Center, way too big for Riot now.

The one name that immediately comes to mind is Post Malone but he's probably too big. He's played the festival before (albeit years ago) and actively goes out of his way to do interesting stuff that leans "rock" but... He feels too big.

A$AP Rocky would be really cool and definitely right in the Riot wheelhouse. Not sure if that would be a fit sizewise or not. Chance could work but I'd be lying if I said that would interest me at all at this point, hah.

Other than that, I can't really think of any other obvious acts that might fit for the "top 3."

Post Malone is out, playing the Lyrical Lemonade Summer Smash (which coincidentally also takes place in Douglass Park) in June

Well, that'll do on that one. Hah!

Also: LOL at Oliver Tree's billing. WTF.

Unrelated, but that was the festival where there were lots of safety issues and workers quit mid festival

Cole Bennett does not know how to run a festival

So hopefully if they are actually back in Douglass the festival is run better this time, because more safety fuck ups from this festival could signal the end of all festivals in Douglass Park

I had to stare at the poster for about 5 minutes because I didn’t even see OT’s name listed on the poster lol

I think Post Malone will headline one day if he ever does a rock/punk album

Just imagined a scenario where he drops a rock album and then does a co-headliner with MGK and it winds up being the best-selling tour of the summer

    …and it could happen

I think MGK would open for him. Fingers crossed we never have to find out tho

Do not put this out into the universe. How much more punk cosplay do we need?

Based on the way MGK and Avril both charted and the amount of press they've been getting? An infinite amount for the foreseeable future.

The first hit to my muse hopes. Headlining a Mad Cool fest spin-off in Spain the week before riot.. but who knows maybe the last show before heading to the US? Lol. Also intriguing is jamiroquai listed as being an exclusive European show.. perhaps they make a trip stateside??

Playing a week before Riot in Europe usually isn't a good sign, but since there are zero hints at who the third headliner is, it's possible.. hopefully we find out sooner than later but most likely we'll get the lineup middle of May (that was the norm for most years)

I hope I'm wrong, and I am often

Just saw Bright Eyes and they killed it. They’d be a great evening set for Riot.

I don't know what this means, but Riot has updated their entire site since yesterday

Did they update everything or did somebody fuck up and put the shows on the right-hand side of the page instead of the left by mistake? Hah. Everything else is pretty much the same, I think...

EDIT: Although when you click on the line-up for 2022 the page has something that says "SHOW ME THE FULL LINEUP NOW" that brings you down to a series of question marks. I'm not sure if that's new or not.

They changed the layout of the main page and other pages as well, added the 2021 poster to the history page (albeit the wrong lineup, lol.. so Riot Fest) and I think a few other changes

(I think this page is new, spoiler: there's nothing on it https://riotfest.org/chicago/lineup-2022/ )

I still don't think the lineup is coming out until mid-May, but it's something?
