I can't and won't try to imagine what you and those you care about are going through.
I think I'm not alone in saying this stuff leaves me speechless. It's very hard to even interact with your post, but I want you to know it's being seen.

yes. they really are that popular.

but they also own the entire media apparatus, so there's also that.

 

but just so you understand: Imagine having to vote for a party that had both AOC and Richard Spencer, and the primaries were between Hillary Clinton and Mitt Romney, and Mitt won(?). And they're the only serious choice that isn't Trump.

Oh and there's two genuine spoiler third parties, one of which is just a the "Hungarian Two-Tailed Dog Party", literally a joke, which cost them a few seats, as well as literal nazis, which also have enough votes to have seats in the parliament.

This is literally what it's like in Hungary and now Orbán has 2/3rd of the parliament. Again.

it's not that confusing, basically everyone who isn't in the currently ruling party more or less tried to band together, regardless of ideology, but there was just too much baggage, and yeah, confusion, to get more than 35% of the vote.
