St. Vincent is opening that show and therefore also out

Definitely a bit of a bummer. But that is a fantastic line-up! Will probably be hitting up that Boston date.

Good luck eating an e-mail, bub.

I think I'm the only person in the world that doesn't like The Gaslight Anthem & is stoked they're not gonna take up a headlining/near top spot

    The intrusive whisper fascinates me

The Aquabats/Less Than Jake/Bowling For Soup tour hitting Chicago in July. They’re all out

I feel like any of these could be added after their tour, i think this happens quite often and Riot Fest have a tendency to book bands they like.

Bouncing Souls doing 3 shows in Chicago next month doesn't necessarily count them out but seems like a weird move if they are playing

Definitely bummed about Gaslight not playing although I'm sure Chicago people are stoked to get an actual headline show lol

The cost is having to deal with a tricky venue in the riv, but it beats getting a shortened festival set as our date for the run.

Are you getting the Riv mixed up with Ravinia? The Riv is pretty easy to get to and they have seats upstairs for my old ass!

No, I just think with some of the changes to the venue inside it presents different challenges than other venues. The seating is no longer and their security for the ga floor is pretty strict now on how many people can be in there, which forces people in the tiered balconies that have mostly bad viewing angles.

Yeah the Riv is not ideal unless you're like, on the floor fully.

So what advice would you all have for me, first time Riv goer, for PUP this Sunday?

I'm going to The Riv for Snail Mail and Big Thief next month and I'm not super stoked about it haha

Just show up on time. As long as your there by like doors or at least showtime then you should be able to get to the main floor area (or get a good spot at the front of one of the tiers)

But ya the venue is not great, it definitely deters me from going unless it's someone I really want to see

Memories are nice, but that's all they are. Prestigious

Last time I saw Gaslight was at the Riv. I liked the venue, but I was on main floor

I saw Clairo earlier this month at the Riv and yeah, they dont let people in the main floor if its too packed, but I got there right before the opening act and they were still letting people in. But tbh it was packed af so I ended up going upstairs, got a seat with a nice view of the show.

But I will probably ask the day off so I can camp and get barricade for Gaslight Anthem.

Into It. Over It. has a tour in June with no Chicago date. He played the Pop Punk Pizza Party last year and he is from Chicago, so I would say theres good chance to see him at Riot this year.

It happens, but the second wave adds are generally in June. Unless they're replacements for an act that cancels later in the summer for one reason or another (which is remarkably rare in non-COVID times).

A show in July typically counts acts out.

Honestly, nobody wants the Souls to be anywhere and everywhere more than me. But with their touring schedule, I'm feeling like a return to Chicago after three nights in a row is probably slim.

The dates are far enough out and all that but... They're on that "we're semi-retired and still tour regularly but we only hit each spot once every 1.25 years on average" schedule. So it's just very unlikely.

But I still have my fingers crossed for Strike Anywhere!

    Give what you can.

Riviera must be hit or miss. I was there a few weeks ago for Manchester Orchestra with my fiancé, and we had balcony tickets but had no issues getting to the floor (we arrived during the first band's set). That said, we did head back to the very last row in the second balcony for Manchester and they went on right as the edibles we took hit and it. was. fucking. glorious.

Is the balcony all reserved assigned seating now?

Oh damn - I saw JEW with the Hotelier there a few years ago and sat in the seats upstairs and loved it. Bummer.

I saw IIOI a couple weeks ago at Sleeping Village and he said those were his only Chicagos show of the year, but maybe we will get Pet Symmetry or T/T/T?

The seats are still there but I meant to say they are no longer ga. You buy tickets specific to them.

I believe so- it was for the Manchester show at least.
