I love Von Trier. The only film of his I've seen that I wasn't enamored with was Melancholia but it was the first Von Trier I'd seen and I haven't revisited it. I haven't seen Nymphomaniac though.

The first part of your post explains why the second part of your post is wrong.

They represent diametrically opposite philosophical views on the value of humanity and the hope or lack thereof for the future. Having to wake up every day to someone who prefers Melancholia would be like living with a Mormon or a nu-metal fan.

This post is too deep for me and I don't really understand it but that's okay. Sorry to derail the thread a bit

Minus the three Netflix doesn't have, I added all of Von Trier's films to the top of my queue. I don't think I've seen a single one, surprisingly.

Thoughts on Xavier Dolan? I've only seen Heartbeats but I loved it.

Dolan's one of my favorites, but it's a minority opinion. Laurence Anyways is one of the most moving films I've seen. For what it's worth, I think Heartbeats is his worst too.

Re-watched Fracture when it randomly came on HBO. It had been a while since I had seen it, but I remembered liking it. I think the movie still holds up today for the most part. There is one part of the story that does seem a bit flimsy now, but without it everything kind of falls apart. I would say it's a solid 7 or 7.5/10.

Coincidentally, she refused to watch movies with Nicolas Cage in it. When I put on Adaptation I did not tell her, and when she realized it was double the Nicolas Cage she refused to watch it and left the room.

The anti-Nicolas Cage sentiment is pretty strong within this generation, but it is mostly not their fault when the most lasting image of him is Con Air and National Treasure.

Haven't seen the first two. My dislike of Kick-Ass has prejudiced me, but yeah I guess he's serviceable in that movie.

Certainly nowhere near when he was doing shit like Birdy and Red Rock West and Moonstruck though.
