Rune Factory 5 is great, it's just some slight performance dips here and there. Don't read too much into that.

What is slight? Because I really want this game but I can’t deal with fucking constant slowdowns

Unfortunately I think it's going to vary for everyone. I never play docked and I hear performance is worse docked and while some people have small dips here and there, some people apparently have huge dips during battles or something.

The thing that is hugely bizarre is this game came out like almost two years ago in Japan or something and it doesn't seem like they did much to stabilize it.

Hopefully now that the US release is out they'll focus on patches.

So bummed about the RF5 reviews, I really hope it gets a patch but not holding my breath

The other part of the reviews that are irksome are when they're like "in a world with Stardew Valley, RF5 doesn't compare or excel..." or some junk and I'm just like "it's not trying to be Stardew and that's alright."

Like sorry, but I want to play a weeb anime faRmPG dating sim where I can just relax with dumb characters unlike Stardew where one of my neighbors is an alcoholic and another has PTSD or some nonsense.

    I just want to unwind.

Yeah I agree that RF is not supposed to be SV. I will look into it, thanks Vase.

I will say this after playing more of it. I'm fine with the stutters and weird loading things because I don't care, but I can see how others could be very bothered by it.

I'm going to give you the shortest review that will help you all out:

Have you played a Rune Factory game before? It's literally just that again so you'll like it. Haven't played before? Rune Factory 4 Special is on Switch, grab that. If you can't stand games that have a lack of polish/performance issues either wait for a patch or get it on sale in a few months. Otherwise, don't bother.

Sometimes that's the review I want. So many journalists/reviewers nowadays act like they're writing their goddamn dissertation or something.

Long form can be great and there are so many talented people in the industry, but I mean, sometimes it's not complicated and I want something short and sweet.

I guess that's why some people like the blurbs from Metacritic, right?

I played 4 and loved it, but looking at videos or 5, it feels like they provable should have kept four’s engine, because this looks bland, and 4 wasn’t at all. I also saw the animals and monster don’t make sounds. That is odd lol

I like the style (the opening theme video surprised me), but the world itself is empty. I'd put it on the same level as Pokemon Legends Arceus, it's not very detailed and it feels like it almost could have been on PS3 or DS.

But I mean, Rune Factory 5 was never going to get the love or budget it deserved. It would have been nice though.

Don’t get me started on Pokemon. A lot of franchises should have stayed the way they were they were instead if trying to become full on 3D games because they lost something in the process.

It blows because these are game franchises that could evolve and still keep their core appeal, but the studios behind them have no idea how to do it and kind of get forced into new directions because of trends, new technologies or higher ups.

Do I want a fully open world, highly detailed 3D Pokemon game like an MMO? Of course I do, but I don't want Game Freak to touch it. I don't want them to be pushed into a situation they clearly can't handle.

It's funny because I really really liked Sun and Moon and thought that was a great direction for them.

Rune Factory 5 had an uphill battle no matter what. The franchise had been dead since 2013 and the original studio went bankrupt. Trying to get the studio who took over, who does the new mediocre Story Of Seasons games and Senran Kagura, to put some actual effort into this long dormant franchise wasn't going to happen. It was just to capitalize on a cult franchise.

I'm at the end of Arceus with the exception of missing like, 30ish Pokemon. I'd like to fully finish it but I don't feel like grinding it out for the rest right now. All in all, I thought it was a pretty enjoyable game despite the obvious criticisms about graphics and some clumsy mechanics. It is a little frustrating when you consider how much better it could be, but putting that aside it's probably the most challenged I've felt by the brand in a long time, which I felt I needed to keep me interested.

I don't really mind barebones graphics, but I really have little patience for barebones graphics that are also blurry and/or come with a shitty performance. At that point you have to wonder if you're being trolled.

Not sure how I feel about how short the Kirby game is. Is 7 hours to beat the game really worth $60?
