It's definitely mostly the 14-21 crowd

It's interesting that people are surprised by this. The tour line-up matches perfectly with who he's associated with, who he's done tracks with, etc. And he's shown zero indication that he wants to be associated with that group of bands in any way above and beyond a vague aesthetic that most of those bands ditched a while ago.

I'm just not sure what people expected.

Pvris being on there really disappoints me. Lynn doesn't seem like the type of person who would be drawn to a tour like this. Obviously the check must be $$$+ for support on this tour. Avril makes sense being on this, she was floundering at adult-contemporary radio and the recent commercialization of the pop-punk aesthetic was probably too good to pass up, that album is so damn cheesy for an adult that's 37yo.

Im a huge ass MGK fan from the start of his career. I saw him at Warped Tour 2012. Yes he has had said gross stuff but has apologized for it and that was when he was like 22 who hasn’t said some regrettable stuff at that age. Do you y’all not remember his single off Hotel Diablo I Think Im Okay which is one of his biggest songs and it sounds like it could be on Tickets To My Downfall. He has always said he has been influenced by the rock/pop punk world and I feel like he has slowly been working into it so I feel it’s not a cash grab and I’m actually happy for him

All I know is MGK tries too hard with this gimmick and no matter the genre, it’s always been bad music.

I mean the guy spearheading this movement is a 46 year old celebrity married to a kardashian. I mean Barker has cred for days but still. To a 46 year old, a 37 year old might seem like a young buck! Haha

I could care less about his music. Anyone in their mid 20’s who talks about how they want to hook up with minors and thinks it’s OK because past rockstars have been pedos is a a piece of garbage. Thats not something I can just gloss over as being young and stupid.

I don't care at all about the lack of authenticity or whatever with MGK, it's just the songs...don't...work. I keep mentioning this but the only song worth a shit on his last album was the one with Halsey who only further proved what a limited vocalist he is. If you couple that with the obnoxious cosplaying and the shitty attitude, it's a non-starter for me. I recognize that I'm a 38-year-old white dude living in Brooklyn so I understand I may not be the target but I've gone to a ton of shows recently (Remi Wolf, Girl In Red, Misterwives, etc) who draw/attract a younger crowd and still enjoyed so, yeah, I think it's him.

Ultimately, MGK brings attention to the scene and that attention is going to make new fans of artists that he's touring with/ not touring with as long as they sound remotely similar since we live in a world run by algorithms. I would imagine he's already made a major impact on bands/artists' streaming numbers since 2020.

unfortunate but true. pretty sure I only saw Bad Religion because they were support to Blink at a show. ended up later becoming one of my favorite bands.

not clamoring blink to mgk, just thinking that sometimes seeing an opening band can influence later taste in genre.

I heard a rumor from a guy who knows a guy that says that a Machine Gun Kelly/Watain/Drain tour 2023 is imminent. True story.

he does have the oli sykes feature

  19. Man didn't think the MGK discourse could suck almost as much as the guy himself does but here we are

  20. Fuck that creep who gives a shit if his music is authentic or not, jesus

  21. If message boards were more common when Blink was selling out massive shows in 1999…shit posting would have been the same. All the fuckers that grew up on Rancid and “real punk” were calling them fake punks too, lol.

I followed the blink > Sum 41 > Warped Tour > etc pipeline, & definitely wouldn't be into Chon/Into It. Over It./etc had I not fallen in love with blink. I think the same thing will happen, & if MGK is their first foray into guitar music who cares? They'll find their way to say Stand Atlantic or MM@TA & hopefully pick up a guitar along the way, & end up making shit that makes my old ass wanna go stand in a tiny crowded room when I'm 45

I was around in '99 at the beginning of internet culture. Can confirm the EXACT scenario you outlined above actually happened.

  25. I had to keep my love for Blink secret in junior high after TOYPAJ came out because I got teased since they weren't "punk anymore"... but somehow Enema of the State was fine? haha
