I would strongly recommend the UHD version of this. Just from skipping around, it looks miiiiles better than the HD edition.

I honestly thought this was the weakest of the 3 Tom Holland movies, but the first half or so was super fun, especially the part that looked like Inception on steroids.

This is one of those things that really makes me think about how different media can be to different people.

I'm reading that thread and it is, admittedly, really interesting and I can see why that would be really interesting to someone who is studying film or some area of film or just enjoys getting more meaning out of things in general and really wants to delve into the nitty gritty and understand what goes into the thought process behind a scene, or etc.

And then I can also see where that would be really boring and unimportant to someone who just wants to watch a couple hours of Spider-Man be Spider-Man and could really care less. The general audience who just goes to a movie to watch a movie and forget about their shitty lives for a while.

Not intending to say anything negative here in either direction, just an observation I find interesting.

EDIT: Oh, I see he makes that very point later on in the thread. Heh.

The thing about flat, lifeless shots and composition is that it makes up most MCU movies. In general, better made films use the visual energy of the cinematography and shot composition to inform the tone/film consistently so that there are no flat, lifeless shots. Spielberg makes popcorn entertainment but even in his bad movies, there is deliberate movement and spacing in every frame he orchestrates. The same can’t be said of the MCU, and is the crux of the cinema vs content debate that Scorsese analyzed so eloquently.

I just that it was an interesting fair way to analyze it while acknowledging it’s lost on most viewers.

Yea, it’s not limited to this movie by any means. But with NWH hitting digital, it has allowed people to grab more shot and segments to analyze in depth. It’s all over my timeline, but not all of is good or bothers to give context to explain their critique.

Like one guy posted the first 30 seconds of the goblin Peter fight on the shield and said it was garbage. Only in the replies he said he thought so because there are like an insane amount of cuts as soon as the fighting brings them close to each other. and he is right, it’s cut cut cut cut cut cut in those moments and when you can slow down and focus on that sequence it does stick out and doesn’t look as good as it did the first time on the big screen (similar to the TLJ Rey/Kylo vs guards scene where when analyzed has some bad choreography and a disappearing weapon). If he had bothered to give context to his take and provided examples of where it’s done better without so many cuts it’s probably something I would’ve posted here. But his tweet alone came across as trolling the people who like the movie.

I mean the MCU did do her dirty. For everything but NWH she was just there to be a hot Aunt May and that’s about it. NWH did give her something to do finally when it comes to shaping Peter and it was well done. Whether he needed that lesson is another thing entirely to me, but I digress.

with all that said, I don’t really care to see her back. Between this and the Into the Spider-Verse films, I don’t really need more Spider-Man multiverse adventures. Let Spider-Man focus on his own world for awhile.

I mean the thread on twitter did, so it’s not that hard to imagine when it’s literally right there.

I mean, a lot of vocal people on the internet are deeply invested in arguing that their favorite Marvel films are things that they’re not. If you factor in the massive success of this particular film, it makes a ton of sense to engage the film and the narratives around it.

It’s still difficult for me to determine when this stuff isn’t being done ironically.

Meme culture surrounding the Star Wars prequels, Raimi films, and now the MCU has led me to notice that takes that are believed to be sincere usually come from a tweet or comment that was given ironically.

Poor guy probably made that entire spill due to a take that originated as a simple shit post.

  19. finally saw this last night! I really liked it. Was fun and I think it just confirmed for me that Tobey is my favorite Peter Parker.

Garfield (justifiably) got a lot of praise for his work in this but Tobey really was so great in it. I feel like Tobey has been undersung for this.

No but cinema is a visual art form so it does matter a bit
