Took a trip to Hard Wax during my Berlin visit the other week and damn...what an incredible record store. One of the best I've ever been to, especially considering the laser focus on its selected specialty genres (techno, deep house, funk, disco, and reggae among them). Fun placement in an alleyway and up three fights of stickered-up hallways, with four or five decks where you can spin records and iPads where you can preview purchases inside too. Mercifully walked out with only 100 euro in damage (records in the last picture). Highly recommended if you're ever in that wonderful city.

PS: Didn't know pictures are apparently discouraged when I was in there. My bad.

Kaleidoscope Heart actually WAS pressed in 2010, which is why I didn’t list it. It’s just out of print/super rare. There are multiple copies for sale on Discogs, but the cheapest one is like $600.

I don't know the full story, but Charlie Simpson's Young Pilgrim was pressed, but it is near impossible to find at any price. So it's cheating, but I want the first mass pressing of that album to happen.

 

Holy Moley 600 bucks. Urgh I'll just impatiently wait for a repress!

 

Sugarcult - Palm Trees and Powerlines, I don't think that ever got pressed. Since they just reissued Start Static, there's still hope.

Money pit was pressed once. Had it sitting in my Amazon cart for like a year and completely missed out.

 

Hey I’ll be in Hamburg and Amsterdam in June. Any recommendations for how to travel back to the states with any vinyl I may want to purchase?

 

To be honest, I really winged it. I kept those five records in the plastic bag the shop gave me and gingerly carried it in my carry on across Germany, Switzerland, France and then back to America. Luckily, only one record got a corner ding on the otuside.

I think your best bet is to bring a vinyl mailer or two and put the records in there, then into your carry on bag or checked luggage. If those mailers protect records flinging across USPS offices, it will keep them safe in your carry-on or other luggage.
