  1. When people ask how much it cost to have a baby, I just say whatever your out of pocket max is lol

Does out of pocket max apply to an unmet deductible, too? I think my deductible is $1500 with a $3000 out of pocket max. Does that mean in a brand new insurance year, i could be charged up to $4500, or just the $3000?

  3. It resets every year.

You'd be responsible for the first 1500 then pay your coinsurance up until you hit 3000 then you'd pay nothing.

That's a really good plan though I'm not sure what your premiums are.

My wife and I have a running joke because when my son was born we got a couple different bills totalling about $7,000, but then when my daughter was born a year later we got one bill for like $200.

Yeah, it's not too bad, I just have to pay 20% coinsurance on medical bills and don't have the greatest network - lost my therapist because doctors seem to hate working with United Healthcare. Still better than a lot of my friends though. I just miss copays haha

I'll complain about my pay all day, and deservedly so, but our insurance plan that our union has helped secure for us from the state is just fucking amazing and it's hard to beat that security.

My wife's complicated birth and son's NICU stay was billed for about $120,000....we paid like $300 I think. I don't know what the fuck people in our situation but who don't have good insurance do. It's ridiculous that we put people through this.

Apparently hospitals have a bank of "good will" that you can apply for if you have no way of paying your bill. People can get $100K of medical debt if they just ask for it. We shouldn't need "hacks" to take care of medical bills though. Broken ass system.

Last fall, we took our son to urgent care, a facility that was in network. A month later we got a bill for $900 and I called to ask why and they told me that even though the urgent care was In Network, the urgent care was short staffed that day and they had to call in doctors from out of network to cover shifts. I replied that there’s no way we could have possibly assumed that we’d randomly see an out of network doctor at an in network urgent care and they agreed and voided the bill.

I mean, this is asinine, but it shows how you absolutely have to call and contest bills. I have heard many stories where this tactic works. It absolutely should not have to be this way, but here we are.

THis might be a dumb question re:taxes, but...technically we didn't pay student loan interest in 2021 right?
