    It's chaos. Be kind. Prestigious

311 announced a Spring tour with no Illinois, and the two closest dates are B-markets in Wisconsin.

I’ve heard rumors that the Incubus/311/Badflower tour that was supposed to happen in 2020, is getting rescheduled to this summer. But at this point, I’m kinda doubting that’s the case (I feel as if it would’ve been announced by now? And not to mention that a lot of 311’s spring dates thread pretty close to some bigger A/B markets). So 311 on Riot I think would be possible and rad!

I posted that as a joke. I honestly had no idea they were associated with Nickelodeon. I just knew it was some TV band for tweens.

Looking at that list of dates, I'd imagine they have a northeast run for late summer on the way. Would make sense to tack Riot on as part of that.

Related: Bauhaus / 311 on Sunday night to close things out would be a perfectly odd, very Riot Fest fit.

Can this actually happen??? The massive divide between attendees would be a beautiful sight to behold

I'm almost thinking of it as a "co-headliner" similar to what they had with Run the Jewels and Incubus in 2018. You put 311 on Rise from 8:00-9:30 and then have Bauhaus on Riot from 8:30-9:45 or whatever. Both would draw pretty well from distinct fanbases.

I legit wonder what kind of bands they'd pair 311 up with. My immediate thought is that we'd get a mix of ska and hip-hop. Then again, having a 311 / Deftones / Snapcase/ Turnstile / Helmet / The Urge as a stage would work pretty well, despite how random it looks on paper.

That would be sick! Nick Hexum has (and I think P-Nut too) have been outspoken fans of Turnstile. Nick was actually at one of their LA shows this week. So pairing the two looks odd on paper, but both bands would be down for sure!

It's weird and it's not. You can distinctively hear the influence 311 had on Turnstile in a bunch of their songs.

None of those bands are rap-rock at all, but they're all heavy but have melody (well, except Snapcase who lack groove and the Urge who aren't heavy) and a super tight groove to them.

i totally see 311 spearheading a ska stage, maybe with interrupters right before them, a 311-ish stoner band like pepper or iration, someone classic like toasters/english beat, and yes The Urge becuase they would be great at riot

Yeah. The thing about 311 too is that the past decade or so, they’ve started to be clumped more in with the “contemporary reggae rock” bands like Sublime With Rome, Slightly Stoopid, etc. all which have/could play Riot. 311 would blend I think. They also put on a pretty fun show!

Honestly, this is a much better scenario than I put together. I was really struggling to piece something together ska-wise.

But 311 with the Interrupters, Pepper, the English Beat, the Urge, and a newer ska band (Catbite!) would be perfect really. Could also see Goldfinger or Reel Big Fish as potentials for that stage.

And FWIW, I think Pepper has popped up on a few festival bills and I don't think they've played Riot recently so... That would make perfect sense.

Yeah, they've definitely aligned themselves with that scene. Which makes a lot of sense. But they've always kinda kept one foot in the ska/punk/whatever door too.

They'd be a good fit for Riot as they tick a number of different boxes. And especially if they were counter to an act like Bauhaus.

mad caddies and ballyhoo are bands that could be in that mix too

For sure! Though I get the sense that the Mad Caddies aren't going to be doing much touring in the US anytime soon. Just based on comments Chuck has made on podcasts, etc. Think he kinda wants do his own thing for a bit.

That’s definitely helped their longevity too. The 90’s alt rock fanbase is still there, but being able to span across two scenes helps them fill those amphitheaters.

I recall they played aftershock a few years back and was so confused. But I was like “you know, this actually makes plenty of sense!” Haha

@JaytotheGee is the biggest Ballyhoo fan so for their sake I hope they play Riot this year.

Lots of good stuff on the Pouzza lineup that I'd also like to see at Riot: Propagandhi, Cloud Nothings, Signals Midwest, Homeless Gospel Choir, Teenage Halloween.

Edit: Skipped right over Maxwell Stern solo on there. I love Signals Midwest, but his solo album is by far my favorite thing he's done.

I need to see Cancer Bats like a dead man needs a box. Can’t remember the last time they toured the US.

No Chicago date on Karate's reunion tour in July, but they could easily be playing Pitchfork (if it happens in July)

Much like Karate's appeal: That tour seems hyper targeted to specific regions. I'd imagine they won't be doing much more beyond that. Maybe Fest or something like that but not sure I see them doing anything like Riot or Pitchfork.

It'd be really cool, and probably a good look for them, but I feel like this is a "one run n' done" kinda thing.

Well here's one that could've been possible since they played Riot in 2015

Elway is out (well, doubtful?), playing July 8 in Chicago with the Holy Mess and Heart & Lung

I don't know that Elway is big enough to be "out" because of a show in July. I'd actually put them and Heart & Lung as likely potentials for last line names on the poster, TBH.

  25. As much as I love Elway, their set in 2015 was pretty rough. Might have been because they were playing really early in the day, but they seemed like they really weren't having a great time up there. I'd be happy to see them again on the small stage though.
