most definitely. I mean, we have the house, senate and presidency.

but like, I don't think Biden's refusal to use more nuclear options to get stuff done, while bad, should distract from the fact that Republicans are the ones forcing the "nuclear option or bust" here.

True but when 90% of the Democratic Party is voting yes on the good stuff and 0% of the Republican Party is, who should most of the anger and blame really be towards when things don't get passed?

as long as they don’t have 50 votes in the senate to change the rules, they’re kind of fucked. I blame a few specific democrats for that

Democrats aren’t even proposing most of the good stuff people need and what little good stuff they do propose they let a few of their own block. It’s pathetic.

In other news, on what possible planet could anyone actually say that the state of this union is strong?

Parents in Texas are literally being treated like criminals for supporting their trans kids. Florida is preventing teachers from even pointing out to kids that gay people exist. Elected officials are vocally supporting a tyrannical dictator who just invaded another country. A pandemic is still ranging, due in no small part to the fact that a large portion of the country has been indoctrinated into thinking life saving medicine doesn't actually work. Women's right to control their own body are under attack. Voting rights are under attack. Oh and the entire planet probably has another 20-30 years at best.

In what world is the state of this union "strong"?

The Republicans are a lost cause and we all kind of knew that ahead of time. It's why the current state of things would have felt so much less crushing had the two Georgia senators lost like we all thought they would. There was plenty of legitimate hope and sense of possibility after they won and the Dems took control of the Senate, that it seemed like the sky was the limit. We probably always should have kept expectations in check.

On the other hand, Biden ran on virtually one thing: the whole "I might not be ambitious or have any great ideas, but I'm the only one who can get things done." So, when it turns out that the only thing he could "get done" was a watered down infrastructure bill that left out all of the most important parts, I think the frustration with him and the party as a whole is well warranted. Many people elected him thinking he could get Republican votes on important legislation; I assume most people didn't think he'd even struggle mightily to get his entire party on board.
