I would much prefer they book someone different instead of Rise Against again, i.e. Courtney Barnett or the Yeah Yeah Yeahs or Sleater-Kinney again (just thinking of acts roughly around the same size)

The Yeah Yeah Yeahs would be fantastic, but I'd put them at headliner status. And I actually think we have a decent shot at them being our #3 headliner.

Courtney would be great too and would fit nicely into the same slot RA did (maybe lower by a time slot or so, depending).

My only thought was they would be kind of a ho-hum Sunday closer after MCR and the Misfits. Granted those two acts would be tough for anyone to follow. Except maybe Op Ivy.

YYYs would be a solid add. It’d also be kinda refreshing not to see them on Lolla or Pitchfork. I could see them being a sub-headliner like Death Cab was in 2016, or a co-headlining spot with another act

small run of may dates for this tour that looks like the bands were drawn at random, in the best way, haha

I'm kind of expecting somebody who is relatively ho-hum by comparison, to be honest. I'm hoping for more, but not necessarily expecting it.

I'm thinking of them in that headlining slot as being akin to having Beck, Queens of the Stone Age, etc. Similar level of popularity, I think, given the relative rarity of their live performances. Wouldn't be a mind-blowing add, but would definitely be a serviceable "rare get" addition.

And it'd be nice to get another female-fronted act at the top of the bill.

I don’t live far from Ontario, but I legitimately had no idea there was even an arena there. That’s… interesting…

The Offspring are playing the Aragon on May 21st. Not a sure thing, but I'd imagine this rules them out. Not because of radius clause or anything like that... But the way they've been touring the last few years, I'm thinking they probably won't be hitting up any cities twice in a year.

I mean, yeah but the openers also make a ton of sense. Haha.

Would be great if Riot brought in Tiger Army again! I could see them having a an early slot on the same stage as the Misfits (or a slightly later slot on a different day on a stage headlined by Social D).

It’s pretty odd to me that The Offspring haven’t been back to Riot since 2014. I would’ve thought they’d been of a more recurring act like Rise Against, or any of the 90’s punk bands, really

Also… Idr if this has been brought up, but The Afghan Whigs are doing a small spring tour that hits up the Midwest a bit but skips Chicago. I think this should put them in play

I know Pitchfork had the Yeah Yeah Yeahs booked on their 2020 lineup before COVID (they did not end up playing in 2021) but I’m not sure if that means they secretly booked them for like, this year or something. I think they would fit well there but would fit even better at Riot.

I feel like the Offspring are in a weird spot as a band. They're undeniably a "fit" for Riot but the majority of their fanbase at this point is definitely in that "active rock" radio/DW festival crowd. They also stick out a bit more at festivals like that, given that they'd be the punk act on the bill.

I know there aren't any direct conflicts, radius clause-wise or whatever, it just kinda seems like that's the world they're trying to stick to at this point.

Could go either way, I think. IMHO, Riot would be a better bet in terms of playing to new people. But they probably don't care so much about that. It's probably more about general fit/vibe and money with them, at this point, to be honest.

    When does Pitchfork usually announce?

Every one of these artists are probably out, which for Riot purposes means Liz Phair and Laura Jane Grace potentially.

Someone else in this thread said Against Me! isn’t playing any shows this year, so I don’t think so.

That’s a great point. At this point, I think The Offspring, Bad Religion, and Anti-Flag are all kinda the go-to punk bands for the DW fests. Haha.

And it makes sense The Offspring banks on the radio fests since I’d say them and RA are the “big” punk bands that are just below Green Day, so it wouldn’t necessarily break the bank

Rise Against, Rancid, Dropkick Murphys, and Social Distortion are in the mix too, albeit on a slightly higher tier. Pennywise as well, but they're a bit lower on those bills. Probably fitting somewhere between BR and A-F. Hah.

I'm not sure how the radio show/festival circuit works now, but when I worked for the alt-rock station in my city it was a bit of a joke. The bands never really liked doing the shows because they didn't get paid much and for a lot of the "newer" bands it was more of a "get paid in promotion and you're mostly just on the bill because the radio station wanted a bigger band on the same label to play."

If that's still the case, it makes total sense that the Offspring would be playing that game. They really seem to want a hit. Green Day kinda gets the airplay regardless and is in (at their smallest) hockey arenas. The Offspring are in bigger theaters. So it's just two different worlds, really.

its always surprised me on riot fest lineups how much lower Anti flag (and bouncing souls) are on the bill than all their contemporaries who usually get in on lines 2-4

Damn, I would've been really down for an LJG solo set. I'd be happy to get Against Me! again though.

Some odd cities on that tour. Are they doing support on a bigger tour?
