How are these people our foreign policy leaders. They’re salivating at the idea of making all this so much worse.

Yeah I'm starting to get really fucking nervous, and I'm over here in Oslo. I really don't know what the off-ramp is at this point. Putin can't really back down at this point, without gaining something; it would go completely against his ethos of being to back down. EU nations basically just said "fuck it, let's all just start openly sending weapons and planes to Ukraine to fight against Russia". And now starting tomorrow Russia's economy is about to go into a free-fall. It's going to be a long fucking week

Given the reports in the last few years about potential health problems, I’d be inclined to believe this a little bit if it were coming from virtually anyone else but Marco Rubio.

I could be completely naïve here but there is no way the military leadership of Russia let him fire off nukes. Like a coup is taking place before that happens.

Now their FSB getting a dirty bomb off to make it look like it was Ukraine's doing I could see but full on nukes going off I just can't see.

I just can't believe how badly Putin has bungled this

    Very clearly underestimated:
    - Ukrainian military ability
    - support of Ukrainian population
    - Western response

Despite having an overwhelmingly bigger military with more resources and all that, some of the decision making seems to have been extremely foolish despite the many months to a year+ of planning. Seems like they expected Ukrainian military to roll over immediately and expected no real pushback.

If it had just stopped at recognizing Luhansk and Donetsk, things would not have gotten to this point. Even if Russian military incursion went to the boundaries of Luhansk and Donetsk oblasts instead of merely the separatist controlled lines, things would not have gotten to this point.

Early days still and things could easily change re capture of Kiev, etc, but so far have to wonder who the hell is advising Putin? Surrounded by yes men with no check on reality?

Not to mention, there have been no attempts at building domestic support unlike in 2014 or with Georgia or the Chechen wars. From all sides from a decision-making perspective, seems like an absolute shit show

    caveat: i know literally nothing
