This is pretty much all I wanted from an Avril album, even if it is very much like the rest of Travis’s school of pop-punk nostalgia or whatever you want to call this sound.

 

Best Avril album by a long mile. It's like she preserved herself for almost two decades Austin Powers style.

 

Nostalgia is a hell of a drug. Travis’ production style is so generic with this pop-punk sound.

Not sure who the target demo is for Avril anymore but glad they got another record.

Never really listened to much of her stuff before this but god damn this is so great!


Also why in the world do Clean versions of albums still exist? I accidentally listened to the Clean version on Apple Music. The first song I thought she was just being silly by almost cursing but stopping herself, by then end of the album I was like wtf is going on?!

 

I've said my piece about not liking modern pop punk production, especially the canned drums, but the energy of this is so great. Mark sounds awesome as well.

 

I think outside of the two singles, the album was produced by John Feldmann. But their production styles are pretty identical.

 

Really enjoying this on first listen. Kiss Me Like The World Is Ending is such a nostalgic blast of fun.

I dont know how I enjoyed that Tickets to My Downfall album when it first came out, MGK's voice is like nails on a chalkboard. Bois Lie started off great but once his deep monotone voice came in it ruined it for me.

 

The production style on this record is driving me nuts, but it's fairly enjoyable otherwise

 

Radio

 

I get that but Radio Edits exist. Not an entire album!

 

I knew this would sound like a Feldmann album but it's still disappointing to have it fully realized it.

 

MGK's vocals are just so, so bad. So grating especially within that song which, up to the point he started singing, was pretty great

 

There might also still be stores that sell them? I think Avril Lavigne can still sell CDs

 

does Walmart still only sell edited CDs?

 

As a child raised on edited CDs, I am very grateful they allowed me to like bands I wouldn't have otherwise been able to listen to.

But yes, they should be labeled much clearer on streaming services haha

He just brings nothing new to the table. If you want a s2004-2008 sounding pop/punk record than he is your man, he kills it.

Just shocking that this stuff is having a comeback, it's so bland.

 

Wild to think that we would have been seeing her tomorrow on what would have been the kick off of the Love Sux tour but alas COVID has struck once again.

New dates are April 2023 and at that point we will have had the tickets for four years.

 

Aside from guitar production choices that I personally don't really care for, Feldy knows exactly what the hell he's doing and he does it better than anyone else in the pop-punk game these days. Whether he knows it or not, he's carrying the torch for Jerry Finn and this scene we are still clearly influenced by.

He knows what a catchy melody is and his track record proves it. There's a reason he's considered the hollywood/big-time producer that he is. I mean, he's the Travis Barker of producers. The dude is always working, people want to work with him, and he's got a lifetime of experience from both sides of the industry. Musicians and fans know exactly what they're going to get if his name is on it. That's a fantastic characteristic to have these days. It's what separates him from most. I will never understand the distaste and discredit towards him as a producer and the scene, especially since he's been doing this for over two decades successfully. That and the other thing I respect most about him as the he genuinely cares about his work and who he works with. There's really know reason for it outside of personal taste, which is subjective AF. Dude is a boss producer.

There's a reason he loves his life so much and makes it known on a daily basis. Even if other people get annoyed by it, that's not his problem at the end of the day.

Alright, @Jason Tate , time for a Chorus.fm Feldy interview. I'm so pumped for this album and future Feldy work now lol.

 

Three songs in and I can already tell that it’s fun but I’m not going to love this (sounds a bit too plastic). That said, I do enjoy that she used the Canadian pronunciation of “sorry” as a slant rhyme in the MGK duet.

 

He's got a writing and/or production credit on nearly every song, wouldn't be surprised. I don't know this dude at all, guess he's one of the modern pop punk rapper kids?

 

Also hot damn the back half of this thing really kicks into gear. Love the Avril fronting Blink vibes on the Hoppus collab.

 

They're dating. He was in Four Letter Lie for a few years and then did some, like, hippie pop stuff that no one liked. Now he's doing pop-punk.
