My cousin and her fiancé excitedly asked me if I wanted to go to a certain DWP fest with them and I had to politely explain that the lineup wasn’t for me. I left out the bigger reason that the promoter is the sworn rival in an imaginary conflict against my favorite festival and my internet friends

A few weeks ago we were talking about the possibility of Idles, but they are playing Osheaga, which is the same weekend as Lollapalooza and tend to share lots of acts, so probs they will play Lolla. Same with Turnstile

I feel like there's so many artists that I thought definitely would've played it that have been ruled out in the past 2 weeks. Which makes me even more excited for all the surprises whenever this does drop

Wait, I just realized Aftershock’s lineup drops today, so I guess we’ll see! Ha!

If we were to choose an actual "rival" for Riot Fest, we'd have to assume it'd be that group of festivals, right? All the others feel too far removed. Riot kinda stands in a class all its own, but they would arguably be the closest in terms of size, genres, etc.

Bummed that we have to wait until later in the day for that. Aftershock feels like the one that tends to be the most "punk" leaning of all those festivals, right?

Given that they already have MCR as a headliner, I wonder if they'd bother with a second of that ilk. Maybe they're trying to branch out beyond the typical 4-6 different artists they rotate between.

I’ve got a whole head cannon about Riot Fest’s relationship to other festivals as if it was a teen drama show.

all Danny Wimmer Presents festivals are the high school jocks to Riot Fest’s cool slacker protagonist.

Fest is the cool little brother.

PRB/ Punk in Drublic are the drunk uncles that occasionally come by.

Lollapalooza is the most popular girl in school. She’s pretty and sometimes flirts with Riot Fest, but ultimately she just runs with a different, more shallow crowd so it never works out.

Pitchfork is the quiet, nerdy best friend who secretly crushes on Riot Fest.

Slam Dunk is the foreign exchange student.

Warped Tour was the adult who used to hang out exactly 500 feet from the school, but the writers killed him off a few years ago

Straight-up amazing. Haha. Just to add to it:

Riot Fest East and Riot Fest West are the failed spin-offs attempted after season 4 that died at the pilot stage.

Wish they still did Riot Fest Denver. I want to go to Riot Fest, but Chicago is too damn far to travel.

    Someone’s been watching Euphoria… haha

To add, FYF Fest was Pitchfork’s best friend that got him into a bunch of “the cool music” but then moved away because his parents got divorced

Yeah I’m bummed they stopped doing it too. I always wanted to do a road trip to the Denver one and then spend a few days around Colorado, but I guess that won’t happen…

Also bummed that they never went through with their plans to do a SoCal edition of it, but it probably would’ve been lackluster compared to Chicago or Denver

Genuinely never seen it… but my wife is into those types of shows lol. I’ve begun to see those archetypes everywhere just from prolonged secondhand exposure

If you wanted to add to Lolla's backstory too: She's a military brat. Used to travel the world with the family, definitely had a creative streak and a diverse group of friends. But when the family finally settled down? She decided to do whatever it takes to remain popular.

Bonnaroo and Coachella could be part of the "cool kids" group that Riot used to see eye-to-eye with when they were younger, despite some aesthetic differences.

They Might Be Giants are out. Rescheduled shows are happening all over Riot weekend and they rescheduled their Chicago show to October

Nine inch nails is playing Saturday of primavera sound. They could headline Sunday of riot fest but I doubt it

Rooting for Green Day as 3rd headliner now

I wonder if maybe Lolla got NIN? Because now it very much seems they aren’t gonna do Riot

I kind of want that Sunday headliner to be a band I don’t care to see so I can head out earlier. Knowing how I normally spread myself thin at the festival and after shows, that seems like the optimal solution.

Probably wouldn't happen but Tyler The Creator would be an awesome third headliner or someone in the hip hip vein

Really hope for The Distillers and Alexisonfire.

Against The Current and Spirirtbox would be cool too

  22. Would it be too much to think one or two of the Saturday bands might be MCR's tour openers too? And therefore likely Riot acts?

Thrice again would make folks happy. Thursday too.

Would Bring Me the Horizon be a potential third or would they be considered too small? They would obviously be a headliner of the stage they play, regardless. But they could be in the mix.

Could also see: Bad Religion, Alexisonfire, Action Bronson, H09909, the Distillers, the Chats, the Interrupters, Underoath, Helmet, and Maggie Lindemann, PoorStacy, Trash Boat, and/or Point North

Yungblud is possible too, but that would feel like a major outlier to me.

Thursday, Thrice, Bayside, Fever 333 too... But they played last year so maybe not?

I'm pretty sure Thursday was the rumored opener back when it was first announced. So it definitely wouldn't surprise me!
