i don’t disagree, but they probably should have never scheduled the tour to begin with

Who knows how long the tour has been scheduled for? Some of these tours are scheduled well in advance and it’s entirely possible that they didn’t know she was pregnant when it was booked. So many assumptions going on with these responses lol

It's very strange they scheduled the tour when he knew before it was announced they were expecting around March, that's the issue people are having with the whole situation

He literally says in the post that before the initial announcement of the tour he found out his wife was pregnant

  5. The more you think about it, the more obvious it is that in reality, the baby alone was never a sufficient reason to skip this tour. He knew for SO long.

The album delay and the RA/Used opportunity pushed it over the hump and that's pretty shitty no matter how much people want to fall back on "it's just business, baby."

His video on his personal IG goes into a bit more detail and says they didn’t know she was pregnant when the tour was initially booked (pre-announcement). I do think the whole situation could’ve been handled better but that does give some additional context.

Ah I did not know that. I still stand by that these responses are a bit much and people shouldn’t be judging anyone so harshly.

yeah this does add context, but it still should have not been announced then if that was the case. maybe this is more complicated than i’m making it out to be - i’ve never booked or announced a show so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Yeah that’s where I stand on it also I think. It definitely would’ve been much better for everyone involved in they’d never announced, or at least canceled much sooner than a month before. I can definitely understand why the openers are so pissed.

    Things have changed.

That video is actually worse than the statement lol

Hopefully the bands who had their income unexpectedly canceled can pay their bills with stories of Senses Fail getting to play cool venues.

I also hope Buddy's baby is healthy.

To be clear I haven't watched the video, I was just going off of the post where he says before the tour they were hit with curveballs and then says one of them was finding out his wife was pregnant. If what he says in the video is different, then I think he should have cancelled the tour when he found out his wife was pregnant.

Also if I was a musician and I was set to go on tour right when my wife is giving birth and leaving her with a new baby to take care of alone for a month or months I would definitely feel shitty about it, so I totally see where he is coming from. He just needs to learn to be more forthcoming with news like this in a timely manner to the relevant people who will be affected by this.

I mean in the video he says that wasn’t the main reason, but it did factor in his decision. I think just with all of the logistics, being presented with their biggest tour in a very long time and his kid being born soon it was too much to pass up. At what point do you hurt your own business and make sacrifices in your personal life just to pacify other people who would probably do the same thing to you given the circumstances?

  15. If you already think a certain action is the moral choice, I really don't think "I assume that others wouldn't do me the same courtesy" is a coherent reason to not make that choice. I empathize at least a little bit with almost every other thing people are saying about why this isn't so bad, but that's just the worst.

Good for buddy, honestly. He should be there to support his wife after she gives birth. End of story, end of conversation.

He’ll look back on it and be glad he made that decision. Also, considering how rough his wife’s last delivery was, it’s a no brainer.

I doubt his wife gives a shit what a bunch of internet commenters & other bands think about any of it, and she shouldn’t.

I don't think anyone is criticizing him for dropping the tour to be with his wife, because I think (or at least hope) we all respect that, people are just saying he should have been more forthcoming with information to the other bands on the tour who already had a bunch of things in place for this tour/had to shift their lives around/had no backup plans and the fans who have to deal with refunds and cancelling hotels and things like that.

Borrowing from myself in a different thread:

I don't begrudge anyone making the decision they think is best for them and their family, and that includes the monetary aspects of it.

I can also speak from experience that what feels feasible / reasonable at the beginning of a (partner's) pregnancy can feel completely overwhelming as that time draws closer.

So when he essentially says "look, I thought I could do this since it was already being planned when I found out my wife was pregnant, but now I'm having second thoughts on that and the delay of our album and this other tour opportunity helped solidify those thoughts" I get that.

It sucks for the other people, for sure and I get that too, and I can't really speak to how he handled it (really that should be on management to handle, provided he was forthcoming with his management team) or how it was perceived by the supporting acts.

I’ve seen you whining all over these forums. I don’t agree with you so no need to debate me on it. I don’t give a shit about the other bands. They’re in a profession where this shit happens. They’ll figure it out.

Buddy being there for his wife, then taking a tour that pays better for his family, is fucking smart.

Isn't the point of a discussion based forum to...post your opinions and engage in discourse? Also like I said before I totally empathize with him being there for his wife, and I think we all have no issues with him doing that, I just was saying the way he went about cancelling the tour was not the best way to do it in my eyes.

I can tell you flat out that I don’t agree. I hope it saves you time, if anything.

It is what it is when it comes to the tour. I hope he’s not too concerned and focuses on his family. That’s all he should care about.
