Normally after watching hard knocks I become stupidly inspired by the team....but after this years season it was easy to see how insufficient the rams are.

Can anyone think of a coach that gets a bigger pass then Jeff fisher?

    The rivalry is back on

I've watched too many Colts games where they lose like 45-7 to bad teams and look fine the next week to count out the Rams after one awful game. The NFC South has a winnable game or two in it too, and it's the NFL, so they'll probably pull an upset or so against a good team before the season's over.

With that said, I picked them to finish 6-10 on the year and called the SF game one of those 6 wins so it's an uphill battle

No. He's literally 9 losses away from the all-time NFL for most losses as a head coach, and he is almost certain to break it this year, yet, there's a real shot he keeps the job.

    So bizarre.

Hope the extension comes today after his 500-0 loss

To anyone interested (and is not a current DirectTV customer): NFL Sunday Ticket is currently $24.99/month for 4 months for current students and I think $40/month for four months for non-students.

If they are trying to take away money from their competitors, they just did. I'm cancelling my cable subscription immediately.

He gets way too much hate on this board. The guy is a good coach and the job he's done in St. Louis since being there has been commendable given that the division has been a killer's row and has had 2 of the top 5 teams the past three years, and had 3 of the best 10 teams for a few years prior to that. Mix that in with never having a decent quarterback, running back, or wide receiver, and you have records of 7-9 being a damned near miracle.

Jeff Fisher is not a good coach. How can that be a real argument?

He has six winning seasons in the last TWENTY years.

He can't be a good coach in the context of the NFL. He is good in the sense that most people are horrible coaches though.

You can't win without personnel. And when he has won, he has done it with very average personnel at that. In 2009 the Titans went 13-3. And their roster was not good. The Rams have considerably overachieved since he was hired. How can the opposite be a real argument?

As someone who has watched Mike McCarthy coach for 11 years, winning is not the only metric for a head coach.

This guy has been a hardcore fisher guy since chorus opened, don't think you can ever convince him otherwise

I mean McCarthy is 105-55-1 in his time as Packers head coach with a Super Bowl win. Fisher is 169-157-1. I can't sign up for the Mike McCarthy is a bad coach thing. Maybe with any luck, he'll get canned this year and GB goes after Fisher?

But that 2008 season (where he had CJ2k and Lenwhale combining for 2000yds and 24TDs, btw) was the last time Jeff Fisher coached a relevant NFL team.

Even if you want to praise him for overachieving, he hasnt coached a team with a legit SB shot or really even a likely division winner since before Obama took office. Hard to take him credibly with such a run of mediocrity.

Mike McCarthy had Brett Favre and Aaron Rodgers in those years. 2006 aside, he's basically never had a QB that hasnt thrown for 4000yds and 30+ TDs.

In the year Rodgers got hurt, Mike McCarthy went 8-7-1. In the year where Favre sucked, McCarthy went 8-8. So, lets not pretend like his success hasnt been heavily reliant on his QB play being so steady

That said, Jeff Fisher is 27-36-1 as the Rams head coach. If he doesnt go above .500 and make the playoffs, you HAVE to fire him. Or you signal to your fans that failure is acceptable.

edit: And history bears this out

"No coach in NFL history has had a losing record in his first four years with a franchise and still had his job by the end of his fifth. "

What I am saying is I am not feeling bad for any fans of any team that owns at least one Super Bowl in the past ten years.

    Must be nice.

Fair. I could certainly have some legit gripes on how Mike Tomlin has transitioned the Steelers D, but, I wouldnt call him a bad coach obviously. Especially as I watch the Browns coaching situation over the years and know it could be so much worse

Tomlin took the Steelers identity and literally reversed it. What was the scariest defense is now the most electrifying offense.

The Tomlin stuff is way overblown, there are a whole bunch of excuses but they're very valid.

The defense is still transitioning even now.

No, I'm just impartial. I live in St. Louis so I've seen him a little closer.

The idea that a guy is a bad coach because he couldn't bring an awful roster with no quarterback to the playoffs is just stupid, as no coach in the NFL would have made the playoffs with those rosters in that division. None.

Also, stating that Mike McCarthy isn't a good coach isn't asking for sympathy. That would be a straw man. McCarthy runs a good camp and is a good disciplinarian. But his play calling has been average and incredibly stale the past few years, and his game and personnel management has been absolutely atrocious.

The dude has been coaching for 20 years. If you have a bad roster for 19 of them, that's a bad coach.

Video: ESPN's Jemele Hill Blasts Supermodel Kate Upton

Just another dumb actor who thinks they can tell people how or when to protest.

Her husband, verlander also posted a fb status on that day talking about how he STANDS for the anthem and all the rhetoric that comes with it (obviously to spit in the face of the people who were kneeling or raising their fist). What a true blue patriot!
