After falling in love with Lament upon release, I am finally going through this band’s discography for the first time. Stage Four is so good.

Yessir it is!

 

Man, I fucking love this band. To me, it’s appeal is similar to mewithoutYou - where the vocals are unique and may not be immediately accessible. It wasn’t until I sat down with Stage Four where instead of hearing music, the lyrics were immediately at the forefront (which never happens for me - thinking about the lyrics are usually last). And while I haven’t had a loved one battle cancer, I could relate to losing religious belief and navigating through the impact it can have on relationships.

That album basically unlocked a door for me, allowing the rest of the discography to hit me.

With that said, the moment those first 10 seconds ring out during the Flowers and You intro, it’s pretty much impossible to not sit down and listen through the entire record.

 

Within the first 2 seconds of Flowers I instantly get choked up.
