dont understand the production complaints i just saw. this record sound remarkably similar to disambiguation in terms of atmosphere and where things are falling in the mix. and disambiguation is one of the best sounding metalcore records of all time in my opinion.

carried by its singles. extremely boring record otherwise. a lot of albums from that era were the same way.

TOCS is obviously very dated and the later records sound much more mature but I think it still stands head and shoulders over most of the scene from that time and still commands respect. it doesn’t rank high on my discog ranking because the rest are so good, but I think we ultimately end up underrating it, even for what it is. It’s a super fun singalong record, the lyrics are scene-y but actually pretty unique, and there’s a lot of fun guitar-work.

On an unrelated note, I think disambiguation sounds much nicer than voyeurist. It works for what they wanted on each, and the dark/heavy guitar tone is similar, but the guitars, to me, sound a lot clearer and vibrant on disambiguation. Tim did a great job recreating that vibe on voyeurist but voyeurist’s guitar work feels much more repetitive. I love the record, but that’s one element I miss from disambig.

Seeing them tonight in a 400 cap venue. Really excited to see what new songs they’ll play.

  9. I'm still not done watching it, but when the convo jumps to Chris' input since Erase Me, and they pretty much say "he started scoring films full time and now he scores our songs too", with Aaron saying Hallelujah is a scored rock song, that was it. And playing some of his No Oasis synth stems right after was the perfect example to showcase this statement. That's exactly what it feels like hearing some of their new stuff now. Chris adds so much depth and a cinematic quality to their sound.

voyeurist could probably be above TOCS but there's a lot of nostalgia on that record, i still love going back to it. don't think they'll ever touch the run of DTGL -> LITSOS -> Ø

Hallelujah is, without a shred of doubt, the worst song on here

While it is one of the weaker songs on Voyeurist, I still dig it. Was a nice bridge between Erase Me and Voyeurist. I like the backing vocals on the second half of the chorus. My gripe is that the chant shouldn't be a the chorus but would work well as a bridge that could overlay on a chorus at the end. Still digging it within the album context, too.

Hallelujah keeps growing on me, I don't like the chants so much but the rest of the song is like the perfect mix of every other era of Underoath, the bridge is one of their strongest ever.

i love "hallelujah," the verses are extremely cool and the bridge (like basically every other bridge on the record) is fucking crazy. choir grew on me, vocal blending in the chorus is wild and the riff shifts from heavy and dumb to intriguingly slanted as it goes ("heavy and dumb" is a compliment from me re: riffs)

it is prob the one song from the record most likely to appear on erase me and not feel out of place tho

still i'm such a mark for this record i can't think in terms of "worst song on the record." i'm even starting to get defensive about how much i like the lyrics lol

I don’t think there’s a single song on Voyeurist I would scrap. Every song is great and serves its purpose… but if I had to choose the “weakest” song in the track list - I would pick Hallelujah.

But I do enjoy the song a lot and I’m excited to see it live in 2 weeks :)

I looked up Spiritbox. how do you find the inspo to write heavy metal lyrics if youre privileged enough to live in Victoria BC? lol

I think I prefer Cycle over Hallelujah (love the chorus and that last scream from Spencer still gets me pumped) but I do rank that song lower on the tier list for Voyeurist.
