Sometimes I do think weezer could just bring out one every two years and work on all killer and less filler of 3 albums per 24 months.

Way to word the news post either super lazily or purposely in a way that rags on Weezer/tries to make them look dumb. It’s an ambitious, interesting thought out concept: four releases, each paired with the the tone of the season they are to represent- released on the first day of each upcoming season, then all together upon completion.

haha. At my heart I’d like to imagine Weezer’s team is more like:

Best snl sketch ever, and yes I am weezer ride or die along with all the musicians/bands that I grew up on, and helped shape my taste. I’m ride or die the Weezers and the Unwritten Laws and the Jimmy Eat Worlds and the Third Eye Blinds and the parallel world blink-182 that stayed broken up after their first Hiautus.

But me being ride or die anything doesn’t change the fact that if you’re going to really vividly cover every time Taylor swift so much as coughs you should put at least half that effort into everyone you cover on a website meant to bring you news. People come here for news and leave fully comprehending this dude’s artists and bands he likes, and the artists and bands he could give a shit about.

    Hey Conor-

As a guy who used to visit weezer.com several times a day in 2002 to download the demos that Karl Koch would post (almost all of which would be scrapped in favor of the stuff they ended up putting on Make Believe)- I get wanting to stick up for a band that means a lot to you.

    Couple things though:

    1) Rivers even notates in the tweet that the dates he posted aren't confirmed, and also that he's not even sure if those are the correct days marking the beginning of their respective szns. So yeah- the headline might be a little bit curt, but it is factual.

    2) I've always thought of this site (and its predecessor) as a community with a news section, not the other way around. So if you're looking for a music news source where each artist is covered equally and with editorial neutrality, then, um, I don't really know what to tell you because I can't think of one. Maybe someone else can help out there.

Either way, I hope this makes a little bit of sense and I hope you stick around the community to discuss these albums when they come out.

PS- That last Desaparecidos album ruled and is super underrated. Hope you put out another one some day!

I get that, I do. And maybe I was short or too aggressive in my response, I just felt it came off mockish about the band’s attempt to do something creatively ambitious.

Yeah I gotcha. I think they're an easy band to like, but I also think they're an easy band for people to roll their eyes at if it's not their thing. Just the way it goes.

see I really like weezer, but I did earlier mock them for having such an impressive output but having so much filler on the albums. Besides that 2011-13 gap, that’s 1-2 albums a year the whole decades with all albums really only having 2-3 songs on them worth playing live (only IMO) and with 4 in a year due you do wonder if they stretch themselves too thin

I'm in the same boat. I absolutely love Blue -> Maladroit, and I've liked maybe 25% give or take of each record they've put out since. Scary thing is though, I think the amount of output they've had over the last decade and a half or so is them holding back. Here's a snippet from a Guitar World article from 20 years ago (fuck, I'm old) where Rivers foreshadows this a little bit.
