I’ve always meant to check this band out. What exactly do they sound like?

i really can’t pin it down. some songs are kinda radiohead-y instrumentally, some are kinda shoegaze. they have two singers, one kinda like floating room and the other kinda like engine down. guy picciotto produced it. you could say it’s a bit of a cosmic gumbo

Day 9 is Natural Process by New Century Classics, from 2009. It's a really pretty post-rock album with plenty of string flourishes, it never gets too loud or aggressive, and can pass as really beautiful background music (not an insult). It reminds me quite a bit of Yndi Halda at times or Explosions in the Sky. Nothing truly remarkable or groundbreaking within the genre, but it's really well put together and pleasant to listen to.

I listen to a lot of post-rock / instrumental music when I'm reading, as I find it difficult to read while listening to anything with a lot going on lyrically, and this will definitely be one to add into rotation. As mentioned about Friends in America, it's a shame that this is basically it for this band, but this is a lovely album.

Mogwai’s The Hawk is Howling is a favorite of mine that doesn’t seem to get as much love as some of their other stuff. If you haven’t heard that it’s highly recommended.

I'm glad you enjoyed them. They also have a pleasant little EP in their discography as well. Something about it just really sticks with me when I want something calming or that I don't have to pay attention to lyrics.

Day 9: Folie à Deux by Fall Out Boy
To be honest, I definitely listened to this when it came out but didn’t connect with it and never listened to it again. More than a decade later, listening to this almost felt like the first time. I enjoyed this way more than I expected. Fall Out Boy is almost entirely out of my listening habits and now I’m rethinking that choice. A perfect encapsulation of the end of their first era. Plenty of their pop-punk and hardcore roots are there, but soul and classic rock colors are woven in to a good deal of success. I mean, “What a Catch, Donnie” is FOB writing their version of a Queen song. Shit, I even enjoyed the guest spots. Very happy I decided to give this a second chance.

Folie a Deux is on a very short list of the genre's best albums. A legitimate celebratory pop masterpiece.

At the time I described it as "having a master's degree in '80s studies" and I stand by it.
