    Player's Log: Yesterday: Origins

So I finished the game today. The only achievement I didn't get is the one for beating within 4 hours. That was never happening, and I don't plan to change that anytime soon.

The game itself was pretty enjoyable. All around much better than the first game in every respect, and it had a real bonkers ending that I hope will be followed up on in a future installment. This game came out in 2016 though, so I imagine if they were going to make a third, it'd already be out by now.

Basically your main character, John Yesterday, is an immortal. In the 1400s, he took a potion that allows a person to be reborn at the same age they were when they experienced their first death post-drink. So basically if I drank the potion, then died, I'd be reborn as 38 every single time I die from that point forward.

Anyway, by the end of the game, we find out he actually received this gift as a baby and all the potion did was override his original dose so he gets reborn as an adult. He reverses the effect, but then gets shot by the bad guy in their dying moments. Instead of him dying though, he just reverts to the original dose, meaning he's now reborn as a baby.

The game ends with his girlfriend taking the baby, but it's not clear what's going to happen next. The ironic part is that the whole game there's a minor subplot about how they weren't in agreement about having kids. Upon seeing the baby, the girlfriend's words are "You win, John." Wild.

    Anyway, next up: Cineris Somnia.

If Cobra says something enough I guess it will just happen. Can you do that for the new Bioshock please? Thanks in advance!

Done with Valhalla’s main story. Wow. Everything that happens from the moment you get back to Norway with Sigurd is absolutely fucking phenomenal. I won’t give too much away but a whole lot about the premise of the game turns out to be not at all what it seems, but the “twist” so to speak makes sense and is a real “ahhhhhhh that explains a lot” moment. The ending you’re left with in the present day story is ambiguous and open ended enough that I hope they do explore it more with whatever AC infinity turns out to be, and it leaves room for you to continue your adventures as Eivor in a way that makes plenty of sense. Anyway the pacing of these kinds of games has always been a bit of an issue and this is no different, the opening and closing sequences are fucking phenomenal and while a lot of the mid story hits plenty of high notes it does tend to drag as it does consist of about 80% of the entire game, a solid 10-15 hours could have been trimmed from the middle section of the game and it would be much better for it. As it stands, with the conclusion taken into account and all the other stuff I’ve been talking about for the past few weeks that I very much enjoy, this is a solid 8.5/10 game in my book, maybe even closer to a 9 when I put some more weight on the sheer amount of fun I had. I don’t have much interest in the Druid or Paris expansions right now but maybe some day when they’re much cheaper, but I am very much looking forward to the dawn of Ragnorok and will be finishing up Asgard in preparation for that. Hard to say how much time I’ll be spending with the game now that the story is wrapped up but I’ll definitely hang around a bit

This game looks cool and comes out Tuesday.

  11. Since the market is ever evolving the main thing to look out for is the size of the cooling enclosure (as small as possible) and make sure it hits the speeds.

geverally you’re looking to spend about 100-150.

  13. I don’t expect anyone to understand this context unless you’ve played the FF7 Remake DLC, but fuck me I spent an hour trying to do this last night and finally got it this morning with half a second left

  17. Fun fact: apparently at a certain point on a map Ethan is scripted to say "Another one?" and give the player a heart attack even though the map was previously cleared and there was indeed not another one

    Player's Log: Cineris Somnia

So, as mentioned in one of my previous posts, this game is from Playism, a company known for publishing all kinds of weird and offbeat indie games, in addition to more standard fare like La-Mulana and Momodora. This is one of the former type.

I'm not really sure how to describe it because I'm also not 100% sure what's actually happening. The gameplay is that of a walking sim, where I'm just going from place to place and collecting items or interacting with people/things. That part is... not interesting, really. It's frustrating having to backtrack from place to place a billion times, and if I didn't have a walkthrough telling me where to go, I imagine I'd be quitting this game.

The story is also fairly minimal. The game begins with you as a little girl on a beach exploring a lighthouse, but then continues to a "chapter select" hub where you are now playing as a mysterious man with four chapters to choose from. The game is Japanese and what little voice acting is in the game is also Japanese.

I played through one chapter, which had me as the man in a forest exploring the history of a family. I'm not sure what the purpose is or how it links up with the prologue.

I'm also not sure what kind of mood it's going for. It feels like a horror game sometimes with creepy music and a tense atmosphere, but one of the devs on the Steam forum said it's not a horror and the game doesn't have a horror tag. And yet I also know one of the four chapters will involve me having to hide from someone who will attempt to kill me, so I feel like the devs are lying.

Anyway, I'm stopping now. Generally I haven't had time to play games during my work week because of other things I want to do, so I imagine I won't continue with this again until Friday at the earliest. We'll see.

  24. Finished VIllage! Great game. Lots to explore, and much less claustrophobic than 7. Satisfying combat and puzzles (except for those ball-rolly-things, fuck that). Pretty well balanced, I played on normal difficulty and didn't feel like I was always too short on ammo or meds. Castle Dimitrescu is easily my favorite portion, not that the game goes downhill from there.

I've always thought Chris is kinda boring, though; I hope they bring Jill/Ada/Claire/Sherry back into the series narrative. Heck, even Leon is more interesting. As much as I loved playing through Ethan's narrative, I think it's kinda weird that Chris is the only returning character for two games. Really excited to see where they go with grown up Rose, though.

Huh, just remembered I haven't finished REvelations 2. Might have to go back to that at some point.

Playing some Borderlands 2 now that my attention has opened up to stuff aside from Valhalla lol. It’s much more difficult than I was anticipating but I’m getting the hang of it. Doesn’t help my gamepad is a cheap as fuck 20 dollar jawn from Amazon and the analog sticks have no finesse whatsoever so aiming blows, might switch to keyboard and mouse til I can afford a new controller
