yeah there's a reason the industry moved from vinyl to cd to begin with lol. if only jewel cases were as appealing as a nice gatefold vinyl to hold in your hand

i used to like to play vinyl at different speeds. then my table broke and i got rid of it.

now i kinda want one of these for similar reasons

Yes not every record is going to sound crystal clear and of course you’re going to run into pops and clicks throughout some albums. I haven’t received but a handful of warped records, so your luck must be worse than mine in that department, but it’s not like you’re stuck with it. It’s definitely not an “easy” way to listen to music and absolutely isn’t for everyone. CDs used to be the only way I listened to music. I enjoy having physical media in a digital age and outside of an Xbox, don’t even have a CD player.

I've been turned off by any bands still doing jewel cases lately. There are gatefold CD case options that look like mini-vinyl that are great to collect.

You might be shocked at how much more expensive nice packaging is versus jewels cases. Many bands simply can't afford high end packaging when it depletes their margins so much.

I'd be interested to see the cost breakdown. I even like those digipaks with the plastic tray but full art paper cover. I guess people don't really want CDs at all anymore but I'd pay $16 for a nice CD package rather than $10 for a jewel case

I largely agree with this. I haven't even listened to, like, half my collection. I enjoy playing records from time to time and always wanted to have my favorite albums on vinyl, if only just to have as a visual collection. Thankfully, I have nearly all of those records at this point in my life so I've moved away from lots of vinyl purchases unlike I use to.

I'm gonna also echo this statement. Like, sometimes I really like listening to some post rock records on vinyl, but my copy of This Will Destroy You's self titled has surface noise and pops/crackles at times which really kills the mood sometimes. I definitely think vinyl is inferior than listening to music files through nice headphones or monitors, but I do enjoy the aesthetic and experience of vinyl for the most part.

Vinyl is generally inferior for listening, but it’s a great collector’s item with an actual function that also looks really cool & cozy when displayed. It’d be kinda silly to have as your only medium but when you can stream everything on earth for just a few dollars a month from your phone, it’s nice to have a condensed physical library of stuff you love that feels personal. It’s like same reason some people miss iPods x100

With that said, I own multiple records that sound more fitting and provide more intimacy spun on wax than they ever could tapping on a file, but that’s definitely not always the case haha. Circa kinda falls into the latter for me, so they rarely get much action on the turntable around here

How weird is it that I collect(ed) a shitload of CDs and always preferred the jewel cases for their longevity? As long as the booklet inside was extensive with lyrics and all the artwork, I was happy. And as the weirdo who still buys new music on CD occasionally, I feel like the industry has gone to 100% gatefold/cardboard the last 5 years.

Oh, the first two Circa releases were the best kind of CDs: jewel cases with full-size cardboard covers of the artwork

Those outer sleeves are great. The OLG booklet is so interesting too with the circular cutouts.

Looks like it leaked on Facebook Dating or something. Can't say I'm familiar with that but people are talking about it in the safecamp group

See Steve just announced he's going to rehab on twitter. So assuming he won't be on the upcoming tour.

I saw that yesterday and I thought it was Circa’s Steve though his pics on there didn’t look recognizable. Plus I didn’t see anything about Circa on his bio. Either way I really hope he’s ok

Hate hearing about his relapses, addition is terrible and I feel so bad for him. I'm glad he uses his platform as much as possible though, hopefully he continues to help others
