I don’t really think that changes what I said. I pretty liberally said “not horrible people”, wasn’t praising their character or saying they were upstanding humanitarian citizens.

Manning and Roethlisberger had their abuse out and documented by Mahomes’ age Didnt they? Like, literally the worst thing they have on Mahomes right now is that his brother is an annoying social media presence.

I don’t think the two situations are comparable at all and just saying “wealthy people generally morally suck” isn’t an argument to me saying “at least the best QBs currently playing don’t have open sexual assault cases, and the one that does isn’t playing”. Maybe progress is the wrong word and maybe I should say Mahomes & whoever are “charismatic public figures” rather than “likeable” but tbh the bar is pretty low, I’d just like to root for a QB who isn’t an abuser or Trump supporter?

I'll definitely miss watching Brady play

Was very lucky to get to

I get this sentiment and partially agree but my feeling is I have seen that enough for a lifetime haha. Diminishing returns? Feels like less of a privilege the longer the point gets hammered in?

Lamar is a trump supporter. Allen was openly vaccine hesitant before he got vaccinated. Watson is as bad as they come. We just don’t know enough about these guys to assume as a class they’re better than what came before them that’s all. You can err on the positive that’s fine I’m just broken and cynical

It always is "enough, let someone else take over" till he's gone and we just see lesser quality play

We have some great QBs in the NFL right now for sure, some potential all-timers, and we still won't see the same quality as what we got to see in Brady, and it's gonna be a lot easier to appreciate and miss now that we don't have to see him interfere with our rooting interests

Sigh well, as far as I know Burrow and Mahomes (and Trevor Lawrence, to reference my own team) haven’t done anything worse (in public knowledge) than be absurdly cocky and be in annoying commercials and I just hope it stays that way. Got no reason to hate those guys yet and I’ll address that bridge when it gets burned.

The AFC is in great hands as far high quality qb play, Brady’s absence will ironically be felt in the nfc where he only played in his age 43 and 44 seasons lol

There is incredible AFC QB play, it's also very inconsistent as we all see frequently (as frequently as 2 days ago). The consistency in excellence is what's going to be missed with Brady gone.

For the record i don’t idolize these players by any stretch of the imagination, I would just like to imagine some of these accidental millionaires, who didn’t come from wealthy backgrounds, are just garden variety greedy entitled assholes and not actual sadists who take time out of their day to torment other people

I think the one thing most of the young QBs have going for them is that the conversations around sexual assault and consent and "boys will be boys" all radically changed while they were in HS/College and coming into the league. Doesnt mean they wont do it (see: Deshaun), but the stuff that Ben and Peyton did were also the things they knew they could get away with because of who they were.

Funny enough, its the Trump support and anti-vaccine stuff that is surely gonna come out about a bunch of them that'll tank them. Also, Mahomes is 1000% going to be doing MLM schemes a la Brady within the coming years. Hell, he'll probably be part of Brady's

This. It was truly wild to get to watch him, always expecting him to fall off but it never happening. I don’t think I truly appreciated it until that falcons SB, and he almost pulled off another insane comeback this year. Knowing that no matter how much his teams were down, that it was never ever was terrifying and exciting to watch haha

this is def a nuanced side of what I was trying to say. The Watson case is going to be important for setting new precedents because Ben Roethlisberger for example was right at the line. Had he gotten accused and tried a few years later society would’ve responded far differently

I just feel like a lot of players in the NFL will always look out for each other just due to the nature of being NFL players together, and while maybe there's scummy guys and not scummy guys those not scummy guys will stick up for those scummy guys often enough that I dunno, I'm not getting my hopes up about any players haha

But fully understand the sentiment of being happy about some of the past scummy guys leaving

  17. It's a big bummer having a scummy guy be the best at the position in the history of your franchise. Ben will always be loved by 90% of Steelers fans and it's unfortunate.

I think that is why I’m glad he’s retiring though. Because I can now fully appreciate his impact on the league since he’s inspired a whole new generation of QBs to play like he does. Before Brady it wasn’t all about cerebral risk management and playing long-term mind games with a defense that thinks it can out-wait you, it was about who can throw the football in tight enough spots. Now, largely because of his influence and to a lesser extent Manning & Rodgers, we have a ton of good quarterbacks instead of a handful. I like an NFL with a ton of good quarterbacks who play smart, more than an NFL with 1 or 2 and a bunch of recklessly aggressive gunslingers (which is how the NFL was for most of his Patriots’ success) and that is where I can be like “wow Brady was awesome”. I don’t need to keep seeing HIM do it and be the gatekeeper at this point to still be in awe of his all-time impact

  20. Are there a ton of good QBs though? Like there are a few elite to borderline elite and a few good to great but half the league at least has average to bad.

isn’t this how a standard distribution works though? “Half the league” *should* be average to bad by NFL standards. I would suggest it was skewed negatively before, where the majority of QBs are below average and you have a few who really “get it” and a bunch who don’t lol. Kind of like how GMs and coaches are right @CarpetElf :-p

I like the current dynamic of a few elites but then like another group of QBs who are on the cusp and could become elite suddenly

So tell me something awesome Supporter

The line for "average" has been raised pretty high

Now whether that's because of Peyton's and Brady's influences on the league or because of rule changes is up for debate

    Probably both

Also, as pointed out - once you turn 40 you automatically become third on this list and surpass Brett Favre, who had -2 yards lol

It's def both of them. Average now is like 4,500 yards because of Peyton and Aaron Rodgers and Drew Brees are disappointments because of Tom Brady's jewelry collection. They broke the meaning of the word haha
