ive been extremely impressed with the entire world of valhalla so far but the intro zone set a high standard and im a fucking sucker for snow in video games. glad to be up north in england and in this environment again. like i said the entire game world is fucking awesome in the most literal sense of the word and these zones are just the icing (lol) on the cake. say what you want about ubisoft open worlds but the sheer beauty in the environments cant be denied, regardless how you feel about the gameplay (which, as far as valhalla goes, is some of the best stuff in any ubi game ive ever played and ive played a lot of the classics in the AC and far cry serieses)

the reaper won't come when you're ready for him

got really bored and saw i still had alpha protocol installed on steam. every gameplay system runs like shit, the hacking minigames are atrocious beyond compare and it's still one of my favorite games ever made

Where are the “SoNy CuLTiVatES ReLAtIonSHips” people now :crylaugh:

The only reason their acquisitions aren’t as big as Microsoft’s is that their pockets aren’t as deep.

  8. Clearly no one in this thread is excited by this acquisition so stop making up a guy to get mad at.

I’m not making up anything, that was being said in here several times. To everyone’s credit, not just in here though.

  10. well as of yesterday it was still true if you look at Sony's acquisition strategy (Housemarque, Nixxes -- literally a small Dutch PC port house, Bluepoint, Insomniac)

this is super out of the left field and uncharacteristic for Sony. so that's where all these peole are. Confused and disappointed I guess.

and also even from a Console Wars perspective it's a pretty lol/nothingburger of an acquisition, since not only is Bungie literally worth 20 times less than Activision, they are for some reason staying independent. I would also go as far as saying that strategically I don't even understand why Sony would do this except that Destiny money is now theirs forever.

Bungie was probably looking for buyers and Sony was like why not

  12. Well it makes a lot more sense if you consider the other prospective buyer. Namely Microsoft.

    but still, ultimately fairly toothless.

I think both statements are true:

Sony DOES cultivate relationships. They've had great relationships with Bungie in terms of exclusive PS content and marketing for Destiny. So I don't know where you're coming off that they don't have a good relationship with them.

And absolutely Sony would have bought Activision if they had the money and things were reversed.

These acquisitions aren't good as a whole. There's so many of them so quickly. It may be good for the studios financially, but we have yet to see how things will play out long term for all other aspects.

  14. also I still think people can claim "this acquisition has been in the works for 6 months" and "this isn't in response to the activision deal" as much as they like, but I very much doubt that if not retaliation, this was a strategically important step for Sony to prove to shareholders that they are not letting Microsoft run them over.

and I fully believe that Microsoft buying Activision might be the most significant business merger in the entertainment space of my lifetime.

nothing would make me more happy than if this leads to one of them to stop making their stupid little box

If that's enough for a cultivated relationship then Microsoft had that with Bethesda and Activision too.

But yes, I agree with your post overall.

  16. patently untrue

also we know that Microsoft wasn't even Activision's first choice

How is that untrue? They've had exclusive or timed content over the years for Activision games

  18. Sony did

They did too, but so did Microsoft, same with Bungie (well, technically, since they once owned Bungie)

  20. I can't think of a Microsoft exclusive Activision aynthing in recent memory.

I think COD map packs came out 1 month early on Xbox 360.

    Assume It's A Bit

Yeah Microsoft and Activision had a pretty close relationship in the late 2000s/early 2010s, but that really hasn't been the case for a while now

Oh yeah, first Microsoft had the co-marketing deal, then Sony. But that's exactly my point. That is not "cultivating a relationship". That's just about who was going to make more money for Activision. Same with the Destiny deal Sony had.

  23. I mean if we go that far back, then Bungie working on literally Halo in the 360 days is also cultivating a relationship by... being owned I guess.

It's still fucking bizarre that the company that made Halo is now part of PlayStation Studios. It feels... gross.

  24. I'm sure this has been posted here but... ew.

I get if it's stuff like Double Fine, who have always been struggling despite making beloved games, or Housemarque... but these conglomerations are just so bad for the industry.
