But seriously I'm prepared for at least one of the days to be complete hell weather-wise

Last year it rained a lot of Friday and the middle of the fest was just a giant mud pit. I lost my shoes a couple times in there on Saturday. I feel like they did a bad job handling it too. Like, they didn't put mulch or sand, it just sat there and got worse and worse. It seems like they should have had a plan for something that happens EVERY YEAR.

Got a flyer at the Real Friends show. TDEP, Basement, Taking Back Sunday, Thursday, and Motion City Soundtrack are all sold out.

The Sunday in 2013 was such a hellhole of a day. I remember the giant mud water puddle by the stage Brand New played at. Miserable.

Anyone going to the pre-party on Thursday? Might make the trip from downtown but not really sure what to expect. Like do the bands play first and then the DJs? Is it really emo music or the usual mainstream pop-punk that passes for emo at these kinds of events? Went to the one at Five Star Bar last year but it was pretty lame.

They didn't care about the park at all last year. That's the difference between one being in their neighborhood (Humboldt Park) and one on the West Side of Chicago that no one visits any other time of the year unless you're a heroin addict (Roosevelt on the north end of the park is one the strips with high heroin trafficking).

Any tips for getting out of there quickly at night? Last year was a shitshow at California station. Worthwhile walking to another station and bypassing the crowds?

Maybe walk over to Kedzie? Will take just a few more minutes but may not be the safest route.

  12. I don't think this was posted here yet.

  13. It's kind of unclear whether there will be an entrance on California (or anywhere besides the main entrance) again this year.

There's no radicals state on here.

Let's hold our breath until we disappear

Radicals was renamed to Storyheart from that competition.

  16. Oh weird, I think Rise stage on the map is actually Radicals, and the Storyheart (name contest winnter) stage on the map is actually Rise.

Agreed. Though I feel like they got a decent amount of shit for the state the park was in after RF last year. I hope they're able to stay there in 2017. I don't really care what park they put it in, as long as it doesn't get kicked to the burbs. That would bum me out.

God, I hope there is. I don't want to walk around the entire park to get in from the el.

Pretty happy that they moved the Rock stage. That mud pit was unbearable last year

It's clear to me that they are using Farrar Drive for moving everything backstage so there will not be an entrance on California unless they change everything.

    That fucking sucks.

So would I be right in saying that the best way to the entrance would probably be to get the Metro to Kedzie, head up South Kedzie Ave then cut across West Ogden, even though the Riot Fest site says to get off at California?

are we still lucky to be here? Prestigious

Getting off at the Kedzie stop might be a bit quicker in terms of the volume of people, but it'll probably be a bit safer to get off at California with the mass of people who'll depart there. The area around Douglas Park can get a bit shady at times (though nowhere near as bad as some other parts of the South and West sides).

Yep I actually left them and went to watch Touche because I couldn't handle all the people crowd surfing and getting mud all over my face every few minutes
