That actually exists. It utilizes randomly generated band names and sponsors and you can't walk around in VR, unfortunately, but... It's out there. Haha. Festival Tycoon.

I actually never thought about the ploy that they could have a 2nd day already planned that they'll announce due to unprecedented demand...

Ignoring the secondary market, I am used to single show tickets being $15-$35 for a standard 1500 cap show, and then festival tickets where the capacity is 30,000+ being $99-$150 per day with scaling rates for 2 or 3 day tickets. This is the price of a multi day festival but 1 day. I don't ever look at arena shows as I hate the atmosphere of those so I have no idea what a popular artist sells tickets for at a basketball/football stadium type show. I'd guess they start at $90 and up?

It should have been priced somewhere between a standard show and a multi day festival. $125 would have been my honest guess if someone gave me the details and asked what it cost... Way off apparently.

    Things have changed.

They are spending millions and millions of dollars on guarantees and associated costs. It's expensive to run this!

hella mega was around like 175 maybe for good seats? so its really not anything crazy. most 3 day festivals also dont have as many big name bands all on one day so im sure costs are cheaper. nothing wrong with thinking its too expensive i just see alot of people saying this when relative to alot of similar type of things its not really that bad

Succinctly put, I'm surprised at the cost but it's not stopping me from buying a ticket. I think it will sell out crazy fast, but if it doesn't, it's not because of the lineup, it'd solely be a cost (travel & ticket) issue, or I guess pandemic fears. However I doubt that's enough of a concern at this point that they can't sell 80,000 tickets for a 1 off event of this magnitude - take that however you want, good/bad etc. not making any judgements about how people are still dealing with covid precautions, just that there are enough people going to events such as this now that it won't be a direct reason for it not selling successfully.

especially bc im sure it will be very easy to resell your tickets if you decide not to go for covid, travel, etc

I'll be curious to see if this sparks similar, albeit smaller scale, festivals in other parts of the country.

also im pretty weary of this, but also intrigued as fuck. with it being a one day event it could be a train wreck but I also want to be a part of it, lol.

Hard to say. Originally that fest was supposed to take place in LA in 2020, then got postponed and moved to Vegas this year. Variety reported that the LA iteration was supposed to have almost 30k attendees.
Then I heard that the Vegas capacity was 50k, but then someone on here said it's actually 80k? So I have no idea. But I'd imagine both fests have similar layouts, allowing for similar amount of tickets.

I don't think it's unfair complaining. I would much rather have a smaller fest with less conflicts then see a piece of paper that looks amazing, but doesn't translate to an amazing experience as so you don't get to see 2/3's of the bands written down... I get hedging your bets and trying to entice as many people as possible, but it's also a surefire way to disappoint a lot of people. And whatever, the cost is out of whack for a 1 day fest, it may be a 'complaint' but it's also a fact. Only after tickets have gone on sale will we know if the complaints translated to no buys. After the smoke clears, I think there will be a sold out fest and some happy organizers so it'll all be mute anyway. I 100% guarantee I'll leave the fest annoyed at some of the decisions I had to make but I also know I'll leave with a big smile on my face having seen some awesome bands. I just want to complain so this type of mega fest doesn't become the norm lol.

And to me, the headliners are the weakest part. If the 3 headliners as indicated are Paramore / MCR or Avril, I'll get a head start on the cheap blackjack tables and quenching my thirst.

Seeing lots of people complaining about live nation doing this when it’s next to impossible to avoid anything with their involvement in the concert world has been hilarious.
