i often just listen to the last three songs. very often. especially in the car, those three songs are pretty much the exact amount of time it takes me to get to work

Somebody Else is definitely my favorites. The lyrics are just too fucking good. It's been a fucking long time since I've felt the emotion he's describing (I've been with my wife for 7 years now) but it still fucking kills me when I listen to it.

Theres not much I can say about this album this hasn't been said already but I still adore it, it's still my favorite of the year, and I have no doubt that it will become an all-time favorite.

This is basically the musical equivalent of The Great Gatsby

I feel like this album has already been with me through so much of my life and in reality it's only been a month.

I used a ton of Sputnik users for my site, most of them ended up becoming contributors or staff there after like a year. Some nice people but a bunch of awful ones

The fact that I took the best writers on the site, so much that they got poached back for higher positions? Because I'm a great talent scout? So true

Definitely, I'm excited to give it a whirl but as we said: no pressure time wise.

It's not one of my favorites, but it does show off their ability to structure and produce a song beautifully. The second verse alone is an immaculate showcase of what makes their music sound so good.

As for 6-12 being their "most experimental stretch," I'm not sure. Some tracks are definitely very new for them, but they show very specific influences (e.g. "Please Be Naked" and Sigur Ros, title track and Four Tet). And listening to the other tracks brought to mind a lot of their past music, even if there wasn't an exact comparison. "Lostmyhead" feels strongly foreshadowed by "Facedown" and "Antichrist" (not just because of the actual reference), "Ballad" is really reminiscent of their older DLID tracks, "Somebody Else" is classic 1975, taking an 80s vibe and making it feel new (and has hints of "Pressure" and even "Robbers"), and "Loving Someone" has got a lot in common with "M.O.N.E.Y." Curious if other people felt any of those or other similarities.

Now that I've had some more time to sit with it, I've unconsciously settled into a listening pattern. I tend to go for "Ugh" through "She's American" or "If I Believe You," then "Ballad" through "The Sound," with "Paris" as the occasional closer, depending on mood. Everything's super listenable, though; the only tracks I skip semi-frequently are "Love Me," "Nana," and "She Lays Down." That's one of the things that I love most about the band. There are few artists that make me want to listen to an entire album, but I can put their entire catalogue on and not worry about it.

Next Show: Jamie xx -- 1/12

The song for me that I've changed my opinion on the most from the 1st listen is "If I Believe You". Not sure what the hell was I doing, but I didn't like it first time around. Now, it's probably top 5, if not top 3. Excited to see them in Brooklyn and hopefully Philly or Firefly.

The song I've come around to the most has to be Nana. I never disliked it, but I didn't start to love it until the other night.

She Lays Down is becoming one of my absolute favorite songs here, it never fails to bring tears to my eyes. I love how it works as a closer, a polar opposite to Love Me (which I consider to be the proper "opener," The 1975 being more of an introduction). Everything is stripped back in She Lays Down, while Love Me is arguably the band at its most grandiose; parallels can even be drawn between the lyrical themes- "love me, if that's what you wanna do" vs. "she's appalled, she doesn't love me at all." Idk, this all seemed much clearer/well thought-out in my head lol.

    Sending my love

Well I thought I would share my thoughts on the new forum, since this band has quickly become so huge in my life. The 1975 went from just a band that I heard people talk of almost daily on AP.net yet had never heard a single note of music from them, to a band I can't stop listening to and going to see twice in the next month or so. It was very recent, but I am completely hooked. The first time I actually HEARD The 1975 was this past December, on a business trip in a hotel in Wichita, Kansas, watching the webstream of KROQ's Almost Acoustic Christmas. I thought, "these guys aren't bad", but the next day, "Chocolate" was stuck in my head. Soon thereafter, "The Sound" came out and that's what changed everything for me. I can't even put into words why I love this song so much, it's simple but so powerful and it hits home for me in a big way, every single time I listen to it. Hundreds and hundreds of plays and I still feel the same about it. Enough of the backstory...the album.

The wait until this album was painstaking. Luckily I was a newbie and had their entire first album and EPs to dive into and fall in love with (not to mention all the other singles from this album that became available). I likely won't forget finally listening to the full album for the first time.

As I grew up and became an "adult" over the past few years, started my career, and really settled down into what I guess is regarded as "normal and happy", it's songs like these that make me realize how much pain still exists in my life. I'm sure that sounds incredibly depressing, I truly don't mean it to. I mean that I connect with this music in a way that puts all those painful things into perspective, and there is a great amount of healing in listening to these songs. I understand the place Matty is coming from in his lyrics, and even though the circumstances are entirely different, the sentiments resonate as if they came from my own mind. As with a lot of my other favorite albums, this album came along at the exact time in my life that I needed to hear it. Professionally and personally right now, everything is moving so fast and quite frankly, I am overwhelmed and feel completely overwhelmed. I needed to hear songs like "The Ballad of Me and My Brain", "Change of Heart", "If I Believe You"...to bring me back to earth, so to speak.

Over a month later, "The Sound" is still my favorite. It probably always will be. But on a 17-song album, there is room for plenty of favorites. "This Must Be My Dream" is a close second - that song is huge, and I can't help but smile the entire time. "UGH!", "The Ballad of Me and My Brain", "Love Me", "A Change of Heart", "She's American", and "Somebody Else" are songs I've listened to almost daily. I can't get enough. I went back and forth for a short while about the length of the album, and how necessary the instrumentals and ambient tracks were, but ultimately I appreciate them and glad they exist.

Taking a trek to Las Vegas in a few weeks to see this band for the first time. Then shortly after, a friend of mine who I've introduced to the band and I are going to the Red Rocks show, which will be mind-blowing. Hoping my business travel this year will allow me to catch them at least one more time this year!
