My wife wants to go and incompletely don’t. It’s a $2k trip to see 10 bands I’ve seen before play “the hits”. Even if there were pre and post parties everyone would be competing for those shows. Unlike a more diverse festival. Anyone know when the Riot Fest lineup drops.

This isn't exactly a criticism, more so a realization, but it's wild how (white) male dominated the scene was in the 2000s/2010s. I know Avril and Paramore are headlining, but aside from them it's just Wolf Alice, MM@TA, The Linda Lindas, Nessa Barrett, and Poppy, all of whom are newer acts. Just something interesting I noticed.

I somewhat expect this to sell out and they add a second day of the same thing. Solely based on Lovers & Friends Fest

What number did it prompt you to text? Because mine just keeps bouncing back as "undelivered"

@Jason Tate weren’t you involved in exploring a post-warped festival experience? Or am I making that up? Because you should do it.

I doubt he will but I wondered for half a second if Travis Barker will drum for Avril. I know he has been lately and signed her to his label.

Yeah, there's absolutely no hiding from it. Avril wasn't even part of the scene as such either. Its why every female fronted band got compared to Paramore for endless years after (and probably still now). Definitely some crappy aspects of the scene in that sense, especially when in my experience there was such an even split in terms of fans (I could be wrong).

Not what I'm saying considering my chemical romance, taking back Sunday, and rumored Paramore headliners are legit the same. And a really good chunk of these bands will most likely do riot fest too.

But as someone who enjoys punk too, I can go to riot and do best of both sides.

Its very very one specific fan, which is 100% a draw, but its not like riot fest doesn't offer relatively a similar experience except its 3 days and longer sets

This line up is absolute insanity. If I wasn’t so damn old and averse to festivals this large and if the pandemic wasn’t still happening, I’d be there. Hell, if I wasn’t building a house this year, I’d probably talk myself into it anyway.

Jealous of those planning to attend.

I mean this with best intentions. Are these resellable. I wanna buy these but if riot is equally good or better I want option out

I wonder if this will be like Coachella, where passes sell out instantly, and they're a really hot commodity, or if it'll be like Riot, where you can find a ticket secondhand the week before for less than face value.

gonna go on a bit of a rant here but when i went to lollapalooza in 2017 the two-day pass was literally our minimum wage (R$900), for a really cool lineup that still couldn't ever come close to this. i saw JEW, the 1975, two door cinema club, the xx, catfish and the bottlemen, glass animals, a solid set from a huge band i didn't really like (metallica) and a shit set from a band i really liked (the strokes).

it was amazing, and definitely worth a fourth of my current salary if i had to pay. i went as a guest for JEW - my favorite band of all time, that being their first and most likely only visit down here - but that wouldn't have stopped me. it was that special an occasion.

this festival will be way, way more special. it's the fucking pinnacle. the entire world is flipping over it. people will be arriving from all continents, paying money they might not make back this year. i'd definitely make this my first overseas trip if it were this lineup spread over at least three days, spending half my life savings in the process. don't miss it if you're just a couple of states away and have money to spend.

edit: reworded the post, that was unnecessary. my point still stands. be there if you have the choice.

i can't imagine this is going to go well.

what are we looking at 20-25 minute sets? only 3 stages? having to run back and forth to see bands? conflicting set times? it seems like a mess.

edit: it also seems like certain bands didn't even know how BIG this was going to be. both TBS and Derek from Mayday seemed shocked at the lineup.
