That's as close to a possible reunion as we've ever gotten. The statement he made about "legal matters" is kind of strange. But it kinda just feels like it's up to Tim making time in his schedule for it.

But I still kinda feel like it would be hyper-pricey booking My Chemical Romance, them, and the Misfits all in the same year.

 

I wouldn’t mind them sacrificing some of the rest of the upper card for that set of headliners. But then again a lot of times I care less about the top lines than the lower card. I don’t know how they could ever top that set of headliners though.

 

Maybe this is finally the year! This, no question, would be the biggest reunion Riot’s booked since Jawbreaker

and I’m not counting MCR since they already have a full U.S. tour around Riot

 

I would definitely be excited for this reunion but I'll be significantly happier when LJG is confirmed for Riot and then confirmed to be doing something silly while there :)

 

Call me crazy, but I’m not sure that even after all this time Op Ivy would be as expensive as other headliners like NIN, Smashing Pumpkins, or Slipknot.

Think about it- besides Riot Fest (and maybe Fest) what other festivals are there who are dying to book an Op Ivy reunion? While they may be legends to the riot fest community, they are still relatively obscure in the music industry in general.

it seems to me like if they ever wanted to reunite, Riot Fest has leverage in the sense that no other festival that size would give them a top billing spot. Not saying they wouldn’t be paid handsomely, but I don’t think it would break the bank. They’d still cost less than the Misfits or MCR.

I would argue it would be their third biggest reunion ever behind the Replacements and the Misfits. (And again, excluding MCR because they had a tour booked rather than it being relatively exclusive.)

I don't think they're as expensive as NIN, but for a one-off reunion I bet they would get as much as Slipknot/Pumpkins get for an average festival headlining slot. Obviously, there would be diminishing returns in poster positioning and how much they'd get if they kept doing it but for a one-off first show back? They would get just as much as Jawbreaker, probably a bit more. I might also be underestimating Riot's budget or how much certain bands get paid. But I have to imagine that Jawbreaker got more than Queens, that Bikini Kill cost significantly less than Blink-182 and Slayer, etc.

Because I'm not going based on how much they would get paid so much as how much MCR and the Misfits are probably getting paid. Hah.

As far as other festivals go? If they want to do a one-offer reunion show like that on a large scale with a decent paycheck, Riot Fest is really the only option if you want it to be "your crowd" and relatively tasteful. So it kinda doesn't matter what other festivals are offering. I doubt they would say "yes" to Coachella (though I'm sure they've probably offered them $$$ in the past) and I really don't see them doing any of the Wimmer festivals because of how that would look to fans. The Fest is too small. Options are pretty limited.

They will obv be reuniting for a Fleetwood Mac set.

 

I mean, at least it's settled. For now. Still, a few things he said definitely indicate it's in the cards and the air... And is gonna happen.

 

Oh how far they have come

 

Had no idea The Menzingers were around 10 years, I thought they were much more recent

 

They where openers for the rise against endgame tour in 2012

 

First album was released in 2007, but they didn't really pick up momentum until 2009 with that one EP. Then Chamberlain Waits the next year got them even more notoriety... Then On the Impossible Past happened.

Really cool to see the progression of Riot Fest, though. I remember looking at the line-up that year in 2011 and thinking "Heh, that's different - but it works." It felt like a logical progression. The "curveballs" that year in Weezer, Social D, Helmet, Urge Overkill all made sense for one reason or another despite not fitting into the usual template. They'd branched out before beyond basic "punk" or whatever but these were more notable acts.

Not quite compared to what they did the following year but still... Really cool to see how the festival has grown over the years, branched out, etc.

 

I’m surprised it’s been over 10 years since Helmet last played. I feel like they’re due again

 

I need a Suicide Machines set at Riot Fest terribly bad. It's embarrassing I still haven't seen them live.

 

It almost frustrates me that I’ve somehow never seen them live

 

2011 was the last time it was all multi venues across the city. 2012 is when it turned into the 3 day festival. The lineup was pretty solid imo

 

Placebo is putting a new record out and touring this year, and it looks like they have September wide open. Would be so psyched if they finally made it to Riot.

 

They are one of my wife's all time favorite bands and we never got to see them, she would be so happy if it happens.

Muse are also releasing a new album soon...

 

I know Placebo is not that big in the US, but I can see them playing before MCR (wishful thinking).

 

That's my thought too. I wouldn't expect the MCR crowd to be super familiar with them, but I do think they'd win over a ton of new fans.

Also, according to setlist.fm they haven't played a show in the US since 2014. Still probably a long shot given the complexity of touring overseas these days, but they'd be such a good fit.

 

I have no read on how big they are beyond the venue sizes they played on their last US tour in 2014. But based on that, direct support to MCR feels like a bit of a stretch.

I could definitely see late afternoon/early evening, though. Particularly if it were to be only one of a few US performances.

 

Yeah, my experience with Placebo is different. Im from Mexico and last time they played Mexico City in 2017 they played 2 sold out shows at a 9k venue, plus 2 festivals shows at other cities subheadlining below The Killers at one and Morrissey at the other. And in 2014 they were headliners of a festival where the other headliners were Nine Inch Nails and Arcade Fire.

So, the fact that their last Chicago show was in 2014 at the House of Blues was really surprising for me lol.

And for example, in their 2022 tour they are playing MadCool festival in Spain, their billing in the line up is the same as bands like Faith No More and Pixies

 

Both good points- it’s a drag they never caught on more in the US. Their record comes out in March and their new songs are really fucking good- hopefully they get a bit more exposure around that time to help them out.
