But the fact that the album blew the minds of so many people on this site is awesome though; the mystery of how our brains process certain sounds

Having never listened to them before I found it pretty accessible. Just some catchy punk songs. Definitely not in love with it, but I spent a decent amount of time listening.

Glow on is a perfectly fine album. Think it harnesses so many genres it appeals to everyone so it's gonna leave an impression.

Here's my real real real bad take: a lottttttt of people will be into the band cause of the bassist. Can't be racist when your music welcomes a black dude! Makes me think of the hype with Bloc Party. Good band sure but got put way way over.

It’s a hardcore record, you get it or you don’t

  5. GLOW ON is mostly very good and extremely fun, but I for sure don’t think I love it as much most people have seemed to. They’re the best of their kind though

At this point I’m even getting sick of hearing myself say it but Time & Space >>>>

Turnstile gets it done with their aesthetic, videos and all, it just sits well with lots of people, also making hard core more accessible. I love it, love the phenomenon, but the record isn't even in my TOP 30. But it doesn't matter, I just connected more with Fiddlehead or Quicksand.

    hmmm

I hated Glow On on first listen. Couldn't stand the lush production choices. Felt a lot more neutral about it on second listen. It really grooves and it's well put together. Just not that interested. I'll give it a third listen at some point.

Well, I loved the lush production the most, at least that's what's fresh. I think I didn't get into it all that much cause most of it had been released earlier as an EP. Normally I would avoid listening to so much from the album before its release, but I was sure the EP is the final output and it wore off a bit.

  15. I’d also worn in that EP super hard by the time the record came out, which I think affected GLOW ON for me because there isn’t a lot on the record I like more than those songs. MYSTERY wound up my top played song of the year and you could tell it was the EP version due to the artwork

that’s not “a bad opinion,” that’s tokenizing a member who is integral to the band’s sound and one of the better bass players in the scene, highlighting an instrument that’s often buried or missing in the music put out by their peers

the bloc party part is even more baffling. kele is literally the songwriter and couldn’t be more essential to the band. do you think every band/POC artist is hyped simply bc of the color of their skin? what??

  23. Yeah if people are into the band because of the bassist it’s because Franz is an excellent bassist
