he ain’t wrong…she continues to be monumentally popular, especially among women and people of color. She would absolutely demolish anyone (as it stands now…I’d be curious what a year plus on the campaign trail would do to her rep)

Rogan is far more of a clueless centrist than the far right terror he’s made out to be

My other SIL who we lived in the same house with for a day two days ago and sat across from us at dinner has tested positive.

I’m sick right now but i assumed it was still from the sickness I had a few days ago that wasn’t covid that just hasn’t gone away. But I was starting to feel slightly better before now feeling worse the last two days so, maybe I got back to back infections and one of them is covid

My kid got sent home today with another fever. Her test last week was negative for covid, looks like we’ll have to see what this one is. She’s had 2 and a half days in daycare in 4 weeks because either she has been sick or her room had to close down. I’ve paid over 1200 dollars for 2 and half days and missed 7 days of work myself. How in the world are parents doing this? I can’t sustain this much longer.

I cannot tell you how much I can't stand Suozzi. Top 5 least favorite politician for me (and there's a lot of competition there) and I'm sad that I'll be moving from his district as soon as he's leaving to fall flat on his face running for governor.

I have been operating under the assumption that every single person I come across in public has COVID.

First study I've seen on T-cell response to Omicron. It's a long thread, but this seems to be the most important: only a small drop in T-cell response, about 20% or so as opposed to the 40x drop in antibody response. Seems like people are taking this as good news (although not overly surprising given the lower proportion of severe disease we're seeing)

And in less positive news, holy shit these numbers from NY. All of them, but especially those case numbers

Hospitalizations increasing that much is a really bad sign.

The media running with (and the Biden admin fueling) a "Omicron is less severe if you're fully vaxxed you're gonna be fine" narrative seems super regrettable at this point

Yeah, I'm a bit confused about NY's numbers in comparison to South Africa. New York, which has ~20 million people and 72% of its population fully vaccinated; South Africa has about 60 million people and 30% fully vaccinated. Yet NY is having nearly 3x the number of cases and slightly more deaths each day, and is rapidly approaching the raw hospitalizations of South Africa's peak. We're testing more, but our almost 20% positivity rate isn't a million miles off from their almost 30% peak rate. I know a few people in SA and they've generally felt that SA had more stringent prevention measures than the US, but the last time I spoke to them (pre-Omicron), it seemed like they weren't too far away from being "back to normal", so I'm not sure if that's an explanation. I guess it is summer in SA...

Somehow we're doing worse and haven't even seen a peak yet.

The problem is not only is omicron infecting so many people that it’s less severity is getting cancelled out, but that’s on top of the fact that for the last few weeks, delta has still been the dominant variant and that’s been fucking people up and sending them to the hospital. So the hospitals are rgetting hit two different ways here
