Their songs are catchy and they were doing the loud-quiet-loud thing before most indie/alternative bands. I don’t think it’s that hard to get. Like I think plenty of bands this site collectively loves are total dogshit, but I can at least see their appeal.

I'm not even talking about seeing why other people like them, although I would say I don't understand why they're often regarded as one of the best bands ever, I'm just saying I don't personally get them. I don't get the same level of enjoyment and appreciation for them that most people do. Nothing really stands out at all.

because they basically invented the thing that all of your favorite bands today are doing lol, and managed to do it being simultaneously weirder and more catchy than all those they influenced

it’s not like it’s captain beefheart or something. it’s pretty easy to understand.

  10. Seeing the Pixies open for Weezer made me realize how much early Weezer ripped them off haha. The Pixies does it better though.

Junk is one of Paul’s best solo songs and better than 90% of Wings songs

Well no one is stopping you or anyone else from talking about James Brown if you want. Start up the discussion, I’m sure there are people here interested in discussing his music.

not a bad opinion, just a comment - i'm gonna jam some James Brown tonight. he's one of those artists where i've probably only heard like 5 songs i know are him and maybe have heard another 10-15 but didn't know it was him. a major blind spot for me that has now piqued my interest to correct.

William Shatner's version of "Common People" is so fucking great. I wouldn't put it ahead of the original (an all-time classic), but I've always gotten the feeling people only enjoyed Shatner's version in an ironic or kitschy way, but I genuinely love it.
