I think you nailed it with jealously. Especially right now with the consoles being so hard to find.

It’s just annoying and wasteful to make people buy the same fucking box. Even in a more environmental context.

there’s no major hardware differences between an Xbox Series X, a PlayStation 5 and a PC.

No they’re not. If anything more harshly I think.

That being said, I don’t see a problem with acquisitions or (timed) exclusives, no matter of its Sony or Microsoft or Nintendo.

  5. Wait so does that mean future TES and Fallout sequels aren't gonna be on PS? How does that affect PC gamers, though? Aren't all those games still coming to GamePass?
Yeah except an old (but not too old) PC can still run new games, with lower graphics.
My newest consoles are PS1 and N64, I've never had an Xbox. Can't really play a PS2 game on the PS1.
I don't see myself buying a different PS every few years, let alone a PS and an Xbox. I think that's my only gripe with console exclusives.

PC is getting everything except a few PlayStation first party games.

Nothing is official but it’s pretty safe to assume they won’t be on PS. But yes they’ll be on PC.

    It's official.

  9. Or wait for them to hit GamePass?

I would count on no longer seeing Bethesda titles on PS unless they write Microsoft a BIG check. I would also assume most of those titles will be on PC since that is one of the major reasons they came on board and Microsoft’s PC presence.

You should see all future titles Day One on Game Pass since they are a first party now.

I mean, I could do that if I had GamePass.

EDIT: Beyond that, I dunno how big I am on GamePass as a thing. It's great as a concept, but I personally just want games in my library and not have to worry about when it's coming or going.

Acquisitions and exclusives are bad. Consolidation of development talent under a small few is bad. It’s bad for the consumer and bad for the creatives as well. Microsoft buying Bethesda was the most egregious example obviously, but they’re not the only ones at fault.

Dude if I ever hit it big on the lottery or fall ass backwards into a lot of cash I would totally buy everyone who posts in this thread regularly a console or some shit lol

Playing Loop Hero and Risk of Rain 2 right now. Not sure what my next game should be.

Is it really black and white like that though? I agree that monopolies are bad, but as an example, I'm not aware that any studio Nintendo's ever acquired has ever suffered as a result or complained. I'm of the feeling that sometimes it's beneficial for both parties for a smaller company to be able to the leverage the resources of a larger one. It just requires the right people in the right places.

Not saying you’re doing this but I just find it interesting that a lot of the same people who probably shit on Disney for consolidating entertainment brands are totally fine with things like Microsoft buying Bethesda and taking a game like Starfield, which was previously going to be multiplatform, and making it so that a whole segment of gamers can’t ever experience it. Or Sony making Xbox console players have to wait 1-2 years for games that should just be coming out on everything at the same time. It’s bad when Disney does it and it’s bad when Sony or Microsoft do it.

  22. Yeah I was about to equate Microsoft and Bethesda to Disney and Marvel. People criticize how Disney is bad for indie film theater releases, do timed exclusives have a similar effect?

I can't really speak on this take because, as you helpfully allowed for, I don't fall into this bracket.

I wouldn't say I shit on Disney, but I understand the dangers in what they do just as I understand the dangers in what you're talking about. But I also recognize exclusives and acquisitions as part of business, and I'm not going to judge based on that because it's exactly what I would do if I were in their position. I mean, you have to have some incentive to get people to buy a particular console, otherwise you have no guarantee of return.

I like to believe in a happy comfortable middle, where we can all get what we want and be happy. That will never happen, but it's fun to think about.

Microsoft has enough money to start their own studios. They don’t need to acquire one of the largest publishers in the industry just to take fun away from people. Sony already has some of the most well-respected and awarded internal studios in the industry, they don’t need to spend money for timed exclusives that force other console players to wait a year or more to play certain games.

  25. mescalineeyes

    fabula nova crystallis Prestigious

not just that but also Bethesda didn't need to be bought either. Save a struggling studio by acquiring them (Double Fine), sure. But a successful publisher? FOH.
