Shows in Chicago up until like June usually have zero effect on them playing riot fest

 

TWY will likely have a new album out by then too. It wouldn't surprise me at all if they played.

 

If the Wonder Years have new music out by Riot then I think it's possible they play. I can't see them coming back to Chicago after this tour until they have something released though.

I don't think this tour has any effect on the rest of the bands playing though. It's pretty early in the year

 

I'm sure The Wonder Years are still in consideration, but with them doing two Chicago dates, it'll probably just be a normal set.

 

Yeah, if they do play I'm sure it won't be an album set. If they had played this year, I think they would have done one album at the festival and the other at an aftershow.

 

I assume they'll have their album out in the Fall so I could see them touring in support of it and playing Riot

 

My guess is that’s why they’re playing smaller than usual venues this tour. So then when they drop a new album there’ll be more hype and they can do another tour in the fall in larger venues/festivals

 

Hot water music is out. They have dates on the west coast riot fest weekend

 

Iron Maiden is out.. I was borderline on mentioning this one, playing Chicago Oct 4

 

Someone posted on the Tour forum that Green Day is headlining Sea Hear Now in NJ. It is the same weekend as Riot and this year they shared The Smashing Pumpkins as headliners

 

Was thinking the same thing

Part of me is thinking Green Day is a strong contender to be on Riot. But at the same time, I feel like that having Green Day, MCR, and Misfits all as headliners would be kinda odd, since all those bands are somewhat in the same vein genre-wise. I feel like Riot would want to get a slightly different headliner of a different genre to fill that third spot

But, please. We could use Green Day at Riot fest

 

Toadies & Rev Horton Heat are out.. rescheduled dates for their tour to fall of next year, will be on the west coast week of Riot... playing Chicago October 9 at the Metro

 

There's a few things here. The Green Day "confirmation" came from the Bamboozle dude... Which makes me think it's probably pretty legit. If it's true, Green Day would be doing two "smaller" US festivals in 2022: Shaky Knees and SeaHearNow. So Green Day has finally said "Fuck it, let's do these shows."

I don't see Riot Fest saying "nah, let's not book Green Day; they're too similar to MCR and the Misfits." With those three acts, you'd draw incredibly well all three days. And, while similar, each of them definitely has crossover draw/appeal that the others don't necessarily have as strongly. They could also probably book a pretty deep line-up without breaking the bank to complement those acts - and get second stage headliners to diversify things.

For me, it's more about budget. Would they want to drop that much bank on three headliners? They usually have at least one of the top three that is a little smaller than the rest in terms of draw, name recognition, etc. but is still definitely headliner status. Usually it's an act that tours more regularly than the rest (i.e., Weezer, QotSA, and the Flaming Lips in 2018, 2017, and 2016, respectively) or is an act that is a bigger draw because it's a reunion (I.e., Bikini Kill in 2019).

So that would be lacking this year. This is all to say that I'm not really sure! If they WERE to book them it would definitely take my "maybe" and turn it into an "almost definitely" as far as me going next year, though! Hah.

 

My other question is what if Lolla booked them?
They already played in 2010, and now probably won't close the main stage, but rather playing against the headliner on the Bud Light stage like Blink182 did in 2017

 

Sea.Hear.Now is promoted by the same company as Lolla, makes sense

 

I could see them doing Lolla, though the festival dates they’re doing seem more “rock” leaning.

But I don’t see them playing a festival and not being the top billed act for their day. If they play, they’d be the main stage closer.

This might be a fuckin’ STRETCH, but this lineup in Australia got announced today and it’s going down the week before Lolla. So hopefully some of the acts on here that we’ve discussed before (Pup, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, etc.) could be in play

 

Weird Al is out has 2 Chicago dates in July and is in cali riot fest weekend

 

Sucks he's not playing Riot, but he's playing my city for the first time ever.. so it's not all bad

The closest he’s playing to me is like, 30 miles away, but there’s tons of Cali dates, so at least I have options for travel! Haha

 

Furnace fest announced that this year they’re expanding to 4 stages and 90 bands over 3 days. Without knowing which bands or how many tickets they’ll open up, it seems like they’re trying to set themselves up as direct competition for Riot Fest (it’s the very next weekend after riot).

I feel like they’re trying to appeal to older metalcore/hardcore kids as “riot fest but without any pop/mainstream sensibilities”. It’ll be interesting to see how the lineups for both turn out this year

 

I went to both last year and besides 4-5 artists there wasn't so much of a crossover between the 2 festivals.

I really hope FF are not trying to be a competition because I loved that it was less crowded and felt more intimate then Riot Fest. I wish FF would continue doing the style they did and not branch out too much to other genres that are on RF.
