Thank you, and I couldn’t agree more. The thoughts were cycling through my head all day that the teachers try their best to lighten it up as much as possible for these little kids by referring to it as “Stranger Danger”, but in the end they’re still young, inexperienced little kids looking at the world around them with wide eyed wonder, confused as to why anyone would want to hurt them. How can we sit back and do nothing except to rip that away from them and shrug our shoulders like “oh well, nothing we can do”?

  9. Yeah the parents seem shady as fuck, also weird how they had a meeting with the school earlier that morning.

I think the part of the system that allows the dad to hire a lawyer for a 15 year old to not be tried as an adult is ok. Not saying he should win that argument but a system that didn’t allow that would not be good.

It's easy to understand why many people don't agree but simply put juveniles should never be tried as adults and that's how the system should be.

it’s weird how often criminal justice reform is touted and brought up but then people are mad a 15 year old isn’t being tried as an adult? obviously the kid did a fucking disgusting inhuman thing but if you have a principled stance on criminal justice reform and fairness you shouldn’t want to see him tried as an adult, imo

So I have now received an email from the superintendent of our school district informing us that “Due to the serious nature of social media threats related to school shootings” across our county, they’re closing school for the rest of the week.

The 15-year-old kid who murdered the other children with the Sig Sauer 9mm being tried as an adult is certainly one question, but unless that kid broke into two separate safes and stole that handgun and the ammunition to put into it completely unbeknownst to his parents then I really feel like they should be facing charges related to all of this as well.

I know this is an emotional reaction, and I know I can't prove the legitimacy of the screenshots and videos, but just a few seconds of looking appear to show him posting all sorts of pictures and videos with the gun. I know these wouldn't necessarily prove that the gun isn't stored in a responsible way in and of themselves, but they sure do seem to indicate that.

Any lawyers in here who know anything about what gun storage / safety laws we actually have on the books that could tie into this situation, if any...? Sorta along the lines of how if a high school kid throws a party at his house where underage people are drinking, and someone drives and ends up in an accident, the parents can be prosecuted.

What I can't stop thinking about is how do we prevent this from happening in this country, or at least cut down on the frequency of instances, not so much punishing that one specific kid who committed this awful act.
