American imperialism sucks but we don’t have to pretend North Korea isn’t a repressive regime with a brutal dictatorship that is known for its brainwashing and work camps and yes killing people for things like smuggling in western culture haha

 

It's just that Radio Free Asia is literally US State Media. I don't trust anything about US enemy countries that is solely sourced through them. Plus, all these stories about North Korea tend to be bullshit. Remember KJU was dead or dying a couple years ago and that turned out to be unfounded? There've also been several instances of DPRK Generals or other officials reported to be "executed" in gruesome ways or for silly reasons, who then turn up standing 3 people away from KJU at an official event a few months later. Reliable info about what's going on in DPRK is probably going to ultimately be sourced back to ROK media in most cases

 

All of that is irrelevant to whether this specific incident occurred. I see a story published by US State Media saying its enemy country killed someone for liking something that's popular in the US right now. It's certainly your prerogative to trust that if you'd like.

 

That article cites Radio Free Asia, once CIA operated but now basically a media arm of US Imperialism in Asia.

 

The way I see it, neither outcome surprises me. Either we're lying sacks of shit or North Korea is a terrible country. Nothing is either added or subtracted.

 

yeah but I think you’re overestimating the reach of this headline/story and, if your insinuation is true, so are the people behind it. This is the same country full of people like those in that focus group in Virginia. Not exactly foreign policy/American imperialism watchers or understanders hah. They’re still blaming Joe Biden for schools being closed/not wanting to close schools at all during a pandemic. People are dumb and disconnected from knowledge at this point, including whatever happens in NK that isn’t one of those wall to wall coverage things like “nk launches new missile” or whatever.

DPRK is hyper-nationalist and the reasons why conditions are as bad as they are is because in no order of importance

1. Genocidal sanctions imposed by the US.
2. The US led invasion of the Korean Peninsula.
2. The fall of the USSR, losing a major trading partner as until the late 80s the DPRK was actually economically stronger than the ROK.
