I like Kona's beer a lot, but damn they failed at the seltzer game. Maybe i'm just too used to delicious High Noons.

Bud Light Retro/Tye Dye are the best seltzers. Ive hated most craft seltzers. Escape Goat is incredible but it’s vodka

High Noons are better, but they aren't seltzers, they are mixed vodka cocktails. It's a small but important distinction, but it's why they taste better

Only hard seltzers I've had that I enjoy are the Spindrift ones, but even those were good not great.

  6. Best seltzers I've had are cape may brewing and two robbers. I think the wild basin jalapeno seltzer is the best seltzer on the market.

Huh. That makes sense i guess, but they definitely say Hard Seltzer in giant letters on the box.

I don't see why it would. To be honest, this probably is happening for a few reasons: 1) Laura Bell probably didn't want to be a sole shareholder in the future after her father is gone.

    2) this opens up wider global distro much more easily

    3) This lets Bells (most likely) start brewing some of their brands in Colorado for west coast distribution, much how New Belgium/Stone/Sierra Nevada did a few years ago with the east coast.

It's just crazy because I've reached out to the people that I know, and my friends in the industry have reached out to people they know all at varying levels of the company and none of them knew it was coming -- which is to be expected I suppose, given the size of the company and whatnot, but they kept a tight lid on it.

Yeah you're right that they list the word seltzer, and I think that there is some weird distinction between what a seltzer truly is, but in the seltzer sense there are two distinct versions. Truly, White Claw, Kona, etc are all seltzers that use distilled alcohol as their "mixer" and are taxed as seltzers at a pretty low rate. High Noon, Cutwater and a few other brands are mixed drinks and are actually taxed at a higher level, which is why they are always more expensive. There was a really intersesting article about it I read a little while ago, not sure the exact one I was reading, but I find the whole thing pretty interesting:

Went to Dovetail’s spontaneously fermented event yesterday. Have to admit it took a bit of drinking those beers to get into them, but once I did holy shit. Had red currant, black raspberry, gooseberry, and Pinot noir variants

On the topic of seltzers, victory’s are delicious and I’m not just saying that. The only other craft one I tried was evil genius that was terrible

speaking of victory…. this is the seasonal winter IPA. lots of pineapple and citrus, about what you’d expect. hops used: mosaic, citra, citra cryo, citra incognito, HBC 586.

In other victory and personal news, the first three weeks of service in the taproom have been great, for the most part, and we’ve been super busy besides some very slow weekday lunches last week but it was our first week of being open for lunch not on weekends so it should pick up. we tapped in southern tier’s crème brûlée stout for their winter seasonal (bye bye pumking) and I will absolutely be getting a growler or five of it soon. our main winter seasonal is merry monkey which is also fucking delicious despite not expecting to like it at all as I’m typically not huge on the monkey beers, but merry monkey is where it’s at

Stopped by the new Forest and Main for a drink before dinner. I’m definitely gonna miss the old spot, but the beer is still incredible. Maybe the best in the Philly area since the Tired Hands stuff went down
