I know this is sort of going back to the conversation from the other day but man Scorsese is really doing some of his best work ever the last ten years. He’s been on a real hot streak ever since Hugo.

Riz Ahmed’s critically acclaimed film Sound of Metal (2019) continued its winning streak by bagging a prestigious award at Hollywood Professional Association’s annual HPA Award.

    I mean.... if I must...

the movie came out in 2009, was released theatrically. After the theatrical window it was released in April of 2010 on DVD and Blu-ray. It was then available on EST, CVOD and other digital channels to purchase for at least 5+ years and most likely was streaming on a number of different networks. In 2021, you can now stream it on Netflix.

So it's quite literally the opposite of "straight to Netflix"

I love the implication that racism, adultery, and domestic violence were okay 20 years ago but are suddenly beyond the pale now, as if the characters didn't directly deal with the consequences.

Ah, Tony Soprano. The Ari Gold of mob characters. Oh sure, we laughed and cheered his antics in 2001, but can you imagine laughing now, in 2021?

Ridley Scott complains that millennials are on their phones too much to go see his movie, and thousands of millennials rush to their phones to tell him he’s wrong.

If you think millennials are bad at paying attention to movies, watch how the zoomers do it (Scott probably thinks millennials are still in their early twenties/teens). They will talk and play on their phones during dialogue or exposition and then perk up when someone starts shooting and ask what is happening.
