Gosh I'm so excited. First new Jimmy Eat World this week. Now new Andrew McMahon!

Can't wait to hear that single, "Fire Escape". Wonder if a new album is on the way also.

 

He's said he's shooting for early next year for the album, so I assume that's still the case.

 

Great. Must have missed that part in the email.

 

He's been working on it for quite awhile. He could probably get the album out there this year if he wanted, but he's been sort of going non-stop for a long time now it seems. He probably wants a breather.

 

So ready for this.

 

The new song is here! "Cecilia" was pretty big for him. I hope this one puts him over the edge!

It's pretty cheesy

Opening verse sounds exactly like Do Better by Say Anything

Loving the new song. Can't wait for a full album.

 

So I like the song, but it feels like it's trying to be Cecilia part 2 in a way? The chronological / storied lyrics behind playing in a band, and then the abrupt big (but not necessarily catchy) chorus surrounding by "wohs and ohs." Don't get me wrong, I like it, I just hope there's something more unique and ambitious on the album -- and perhaps a little bit faster. But overall, really good track that invokes nostalgia for some reason.

 

Another great song, Andrew is unstoppable

only thing is it's a little too "upbeat/cheesy" for me. i can see myself having to be in the mood to listen to this.

After listening to this song on repeat for a while, it is definitely Andrew attempting to go in a more mainstream direction. The song musically feels pretty generic to me. I don't hate the song, but I also don't love it. Will be interesting to see how the rest of the album sounds, hoping Fire Escape is a deviation for marketing purposes.

It's good. But the more of the same just doesn't really hit me as a must listen at this point. I'll probably enjoy it more in context of a full album.
