I'll continue riding for Van Weezer, which is a fucking blast even if it is mostly a dumb-fun blast.

 

yeah both the albums from this year are pretty fantastic. not, like, top 10 AOTY material fantastic, but better than tons of albums that get shine on this site a lot

 

I hate this phrase, but I feel like Weezer "understand the assignment". They don't make all-time classics anymore, but they generally achieve what they set out for with a particular album/era. There's value in that.

The War on Drugs are ok at best, at times a bit boring at worst.

I’ve listened to each album twice and each time I’m just like, “yep this is music made by people”. I can kind of see why people foam at the mouth for them but they just do absolutely nothing for me personally.

 

The newest Novo Amor album is better than the newest Bon Iver album

Weezer’s success is in how they haven’t bound themselves to the idiosyncracies of their initial popularity

Whether you like their current music or not, it’s way more interesting in almost every sense than folks like the Pixies, Foo Fighters, Nada Surf, Dinosaur Jr, Stephen Malkmus, maybe even uber prolific peers like gbv and well i cant think of more right now, but most legacy bands coast on their brand. Weezer is a rare case who routinely alienates their audience and it works out better

 

No. More interesting than Dino, and Malkmus? No

 

Nobody sincerely cares enough about Weezer - either positively or negatively - to justify debating about them this much. At this point it is much less that people have genuinely strong opinions about their music, and more that people feel that they need to have a strong opinion on the band regardless of how much they actually care about the music

 

Weezer is more interesting than the Strokes.

I’ve probably legitimately heard maybe 5 Weezer songs in my life. I find it kind of fascinating / maddening how the fan base interacts and talks about the band.

 

I do legitimately like Weezer, but just putting them into the same conversation as Dinosaur Jr., Pavement, and Pixies is insane.

 

Uh easily, the strokes are terrible. Also, they are top 5 worst bands I've ever seen live, what a sloppy fucking mess

 

I just really fucking hate Rivers honestly

 

but like, would u rather listen to Indie Cindy than OK Human?

 

I'd rather listen to OK Human than any album from any of those bands.

 

Kinda pointless listening to OK Human when the first song is easily better than anything after it.

 

Wouldn't even say its top 3 on the album.
