Definitely recommend saniderm.

 

I assume it’s a lotion?

 

It’s basically “new skin.” Once you get the tattoo, they’ll clean and wrap it. The next morning I wash it with non-scented soap and pat dry then apply the saniderm per the instructions on the box. Once I’m done when the saniderm I moisturize it for awhile, but I believe in always moisturizing tattoos even after healed.

 

no it’s a clear bandage that you put on right after your tattoo and then apply a new one 24 hours later and leave it on for 5 days. Once you take it off the tattoo is basically healed. Super easy to use.

 

My last two tattoos they put the saniderm on me and told me leave it on for a few days to a week. Every tattoo artist says stuff a little different. I definitely prefer it because you don't have to worry too much for that time period.

 

Maybe I should use that for my next one. I’ve always just washed (just water) and then put lotion on it, using a different lotion almost every time depending on what each artist says to use but my biggest issue with doing that is I get super light headed and feel super sick because of the raised skin lmao it does not work for me. I remember when I got my chest piece done I had to have someone hold me up because cleaning it / putting lotion on it was so “gross” in my head and totally make me wanna puke lol

 

Ahh okay gotcha. Yeah I think I’m just worried that if you don’t do the proper care afterwards it could ruin it and I don’t want to do that obviously. I also figured everyone does something different.

 

Saniderm is the easiest shit ever and “proper care” so you’re good there; don’t think I could ever go back to the old way (changing wraps and washing it twice a day for a few days, the crazy itching and peeling, etc).

 

By healed do you mean you bypass peeking and scabbing or those are just expedited?

ive always just took off wrap and washed with non-scented soap 2 hours after tattoo, wash with same soap twice daily a couple days, then non-scented lotion 2-4 times a day until healed.

 

yeah you basically take it off and it’s all pealed and no scabbing or anything. Just needs lotion. It’s amazing.

 

So the day after I posted about asking some questions about my first tattoo, I made an appointment with an artist who some friends vouched for and who does great work. The original intention was something small for my mom, who was battling stage four cancer for the last three years.

My appointment was today, but sadly my mom passed away yesterday morning. I knew I wanted to continue the appointment in her honor but I went a little bigger and did a piece on my whole forearm. It’s the Virgin Mary (my mom was a devout Catholic) with roses surrounding her, and a little sentence “I love you” in her handwriting that I took from a birthday card.

I absolutely love the way it came out and I couldn’t even have conceived it better in my own head.

 

So sorry about your mom.

 

I as well. I hope the tattoo was at least a positive first experience.

 

It was great. I told the artist what happened and he made it so awesome. I couldn’t believe how well I did with the pain, it really barely hurt except for the inner section of the elbow and the wrist. Other than that, I can’t wait to get my next one already.

 

Sorry to hear about your mom. Glad the tattoo turned out so well, though. And you’re probably already officially addicted.

The saniderm you guys suggested is delayed shipping so I’ve been using Dove fragrance free soap to wash the tattoo, and then Aquaphor a few times a day. It’s not peeling or anything yet but the skin does look a little raised. I keep being told it’ll scab or peel… it’s normal that that hasn’t happened yet right?

 

it's been a long time since i got a tattoo but i don't think any of mine ever scabbed. i don't even remember them peeling tbh so i wouldn't worry. they all look / healed fine so if they're "supposed" to do that then idk i've always had a different experience lol

 

More fine or sparse linework doesn’t always peel or scab very profusely. My last piece was a lot more work though and started peeling after like 5-7 days and was done by 14.

My wife just got turned away from an appointment because she's still breastfeeding - is that a thing? Like, she got a tattoo a couple of months ago at a different place and they didn't say a thing about it. Just really frustrating coz there was no mention of it when the appointment was booked so its a big waste of time for her to drive out there and get turned away at the door.

 

It’s very much a thing. My wife has been waiting to get one for the same reason. I think it’s mostly about liability though.
