  1. We're visiting from Argentina, so it's a long flight, but I've been there a lot and realize it is a bit too many days. We may do Boston as well or DC (I've never been and not sure if it's worth it).

We may just take it slow and do one area a day... Soho, Brooklyn, Midtown, etc. We're just going for all the food and beer really.

Oh that's awesome! When's your trip? NYC in December is a lot of fun. I'm right outside of DC, it's great for a day or two as well.

10 days is a lot, but NYC has a lot to offer. If you did had to pick another city DC is 10x better than Boston.

For pizza I always recommend Joe's for a classic NY slice. John's and Bleecker are also excellent. Prince St if you want something a little different

For beer you have *so* many options, both from breweries or bars. Most of the good breweries are in Brooklyn (and Queens), like Grimm, KCBC, Other Half, Finback, Threes...and many others. My favorite 3 beer bars are Beer Street, Proletariat, and Spuyten Duyvil (SPY-tin DYE-ville)

I've never had either because I have Celiac, but everyone always seems to talk about Grimaldi's and Artichoke Basille being the best pizza.

    Very touristy

Grimaldis is touristy but the spot on Front st is still well regarded. Artichoke sucks IMO, you're better off at a corner shop.

Another pizza place I swear by and left off, L'Industrie in Williamsburg.

  8. Wow. Thank you. I've only been to Grimm of all those places and can't wait to go back. I met Simcoe the cat and bought her sticker too.

I went to Grimaldi's probably over 10 years ago and I think my palate only understood NY style pizza so I didn't love it. I remember it being a little more like Neapolitan pizza? I might go back, I remember the spot in Brooklyn was great.

I'll take my girlfriend to Artichoke's just because there's nothing like that here, but I remember it not being great last time I had it.

I read on insta recently that the cat is not doing too well :(

If you like the artichoke slice, people still swear by it. Otherwise it's meh.

re: Simcoe (Grimm's cat) she is expected to make a full recovery! they aren't sure what happened (thinking rat poison) but there was successful GoFundMe to help pay for the vet expenses and she's home recovering at at the taproom manager's apartment. I basically live at that brewery and was devastated.

Scarr's and Best Pizza are my two favorite slices in NY right now. still need to get down to Baby Luc's.

if you're up for it, I love going to a BYOB spot in Chinatown with a bottle of wine - Bo Ky, Great NY Noodletown, and Deluxe Green Bo are my go to's in the area.

Evil Twin in Ridgewood wasn't mentioned but has a gorgeous greenhouse style taproom. if you go to Finback, go to their location in Brooklyn as it's a little easier to get to.

touristy pizza: joes near times square. delicious, tho expect to be waitin in line for a bit.

was actually there day before last for the weekend. sat/sun type thing. took my sis and her two boys. thankful the weather cleared up by the time we got there. the day consisted of joe's pizza, times square, nintendo store, magnolia bakery, pit stop at city beer, then ended the trip with a visit to the 9/11 memorial in the morning before catchin our flight back.

  12. Nooo Simcoe :(

My go-to slice in NYC is white, from any pizza place - it's usually perfect. I want to give Artichoke's another shot.

I went to Grimm for the first time ever in August. I obviously loved it, got a Simcoe sticker then sat outside, and a cat came and sat by me just to hang out. Probably the friendliest cat I ever met. I did not put 2 and 2 together until I left the city and realized Simcoe wast the cat I met. I hope she's okay when I'm there again.

    Thank you for the recs!

Been a while since I visited the Nintendo store. I really liked that Magnolia Bakery pudding last time too. Levain has never disappointed me yet either.

Paulie gee’s slice shop in greenpoint has a legitimately great slice. I’m a joe&sal’s loyalist myself because they’re in my neighborhood. It depends where you’ll be though, you can find good pizza pretty much anywhere.

gotta recommend NYC’s best restaurant chain, Xi’an Famous Foods. Get the spicy cumin lamb noodles. The fuckin best

los tacos in Chelsea market for good tacos.

artichoke pizza is fine at best.

  15. I know you can order them frozen on Amazon but I'm not sure how close they are to the real thing.

If you're into comedy, I definitely suggest using one of your nights to visit somewhere like Village Underground or Comedy Cellar. Always a good time.

  19. Lucali is probably the best pizza in the whole city but you'll need to get a bit lucky to get in. You gotta show up and put your name down and then wait to be called... and the line is long every night.

I'm partial to most places in Brooklyn because it's where I grew up and I feel like I'm biased because it reminds me of my childhood, haha. But a lot of people have definitely mentioned some great places for a good albeit touristy slice (Joe's, Prince St., etc.).

I also agree with the Artichoke sentiment. It's not bad pizza by any stretch but it's also not one I'd tell someone they must try if they have limited time in the city. It reminds me of pizza I eat when I'm drunk from a long day out with friends because I feel like that's the only time I ever eat it.

Denino's also has really great thin pizza. The original is out here on Staten Island but there is one in Greenwich Village. They also have phenomenal buffalo calamari and wings.

Staten Island does have five or six iconic spots for really good authentic pizza, but there's literally no other reason to visit here so unless you plan on doing a little pizza tour where you try a few places, I can't recommend coming out here, haha.

Well shit, I just landed a brunch date but I haven’t been to brunch in this city in years. Anyone have a spot they’d recommend?

Is the Sultan Room a cool venue? We're playing there in January and it seems like a good get but I can't quite tell.
