Nope. They started incorporating Phil's singing on their last release, The Valley. Since then, they've added more melody and singing here and there while retaining their original sound overall.

I'm all for good throwback style stuff at this point, but SYSC is really at their best when they're letting Connie be absolutely unhinged with the deep screams and the sass vocals. This just reminds me of a bad Myspace song that'd be on Shane Massacre's profile.

Their earlier sasscore material was fun, but the full on Misery Signals worship of their last album was awesome and my favorite of their stuff.

 

I've been curious to hear their stuff after hearing some older songs, but this... just reminds me of various scenecore bands from that mid to late 00s era that haven't really held up well. I'll still give it a listen for nostalgia's sake.

Here's a pretty decent article delving into the history of it - it's basically a broad encompassing term describing a lot of sounds. I was thinking of it more in relation to bands like The Number 12 Looks Like You, Heavy Heavy Low Low, and The Sawtooth Grin - basically "Myspace" grindcore bands with a "sassy" aesthetic. IIRC sasscore was a self-described term for SeeYouSpaceCowboy during their earlier days.

You can hear it a lot more on the earlier material. Here's a comp release from when they first signed to Pure Noise that has everything but their demo on it.
