  1. Taking a break from a month of horror films for a bit to rewatch Casino Royale before going to see the new one. Love Eva Green in this, but her last scene always makes me sad.

Anyone watch Copshop? Looks like the reviews are pretty good, but I can't remember the last thing I liked Gerard Butler in. Gamer, maybe? lol

Quantum of Solace is fine as a direct sequel and a revenge story but doesn't have enough to stand alone as a... standalone film. Especially for a casual audience with a short term memory seeing it in theaters (me the first time). I like Olga Kurylenko as someone Bond confides in who seeks her own vengeance. The villains are boring, though, and Gemma Arterton had very little to do. The action scenes were so poorly edited with too many quick cuts.

That Jack White and Alicia Keys song is a bop.

    lol Hopper's in this

Adding to my review of Casino Royale, Mads is great as a villain, but what I really like about the movie is that it doesn't end after his character dies. It's really interesting structurally, to have a good chunk of film left after getting rid of the big bad.

as long as Christopher Nolan is still making movies, Michael Caine will still act.

  14. Skyfall is easily my favorite of the four, so many memorable scenes and locations, just a well crafted film all around. I love Naomie Harris in this, and the fact that she and Berenice Marlohe are both POC is a win. Javier Bardem is a charismatic villain, and I feel like this story was a proper sendoff for Judi Dench. I don't know how to feel about how in each of these first three films a female character Bond hooks up with dies, though.

Doesn't that happen in pretty much every Bond movie lol

Not defending it of course but I don't think it's exclusive to the Craig ones

I loved Skyfall when it came out, but I rarely think about it when I think of the bond films these days

  21. Spectre is fine. Has the opposite problem as Quantum of Solace. Andrew Scott and Christoph Waltz are great (and Dave Bautista kicked ass! even though I think says only one word the entire movie haha), but the plot isn't very interesting. It's a shame, because aside from the writing, a lot of Skyfall's strengths carry over into this one, having the same director after all. Big bad says he pulled the strings to have every woman Bond was close with killed in the last three films but I don't buy that they'd planned that in advance, and even if they did I still think it's shitty.

also unlike the writer's strike they couldn't make any content without their workforce and they still gave them crumbs

Is there a thread for the Todd Haynes Velvet Underground doc? It’s my favorite film of the year so far.
