We all made fun of crabcore but they were doing some intense squatting in skinny jeans and that's impressive af physically

I love some of Young Jesus's music dearly but selfishly wish they'd drop the heady philosophical jam band thing and write more songs

seeing the banana album praised makes me a little mad bc to me Nico's solo work blows The Velvet Underground out of the water and I feel like history has unfairly overlooked her

Boygenius just feels like a split where each member brings their weakest material (barring souvenir) rather than a collaborative ep

I appreciate, but don’t completely agree with this take. I really do love some of their shorter songs from their last album but jammy song are so damn good, too

Yeah, I think I can agree with this. Some of the songs are definitely more collaborative than others. Definitely not their strongest work either. I still enjoy it, though not as much as most of their solo stuff

Every song on the Boygenius EP is better than anything on the last two proper Julien Baker albums.

    i don't agree with that

but i do think that "me & my dog" is the best phoebe bridgers song and it's not close :)

I think a song doesn’t get any more collaborative than “Ketchum, ID.”

I think the boygenius EP is some of the best work they have done tbh

and that’s coming from someone who loves their solo works A LOT.

I do think they are making more interesting music than a lot of musicians out there and it’s nice that people seem to be catching on to that

U2 made nothing interesting in the 90’s

Lol what? Achtung Baby is one of the most daring left turns in pop or rock history. That has to at least clear the bar of “interesting.”

I can accept this about TOTL but not LO
I feel like anything on the album could’ve been on any of their solo albums and wouldn’t feel out of place. I don’t really feel like everyone’s fingerprints are all over any of the songs, but this is probably the one that comes closest to what I was hoping for

The argument against Achtung Baby if you’re gonna make one, which you shouldn’t, is that as a left turn, it’s relatively staid compared to some of their peers; Peter Gabriel, Talk Talk, Depeche Mode, REM, David Byrne, Wire, Paul Simon, Sting, i dunno, Marc Almond? Edywn Collins?, whose reinventions were more fundamental songwriting turns.

For all its murky clang, the songs on Achtung Baby aren’t particularly un-U2, so much as U2 in an industrial alt rock costume. Would any of the hits really be out of place on the previous few albums?

But even if u hate U2, it’s at least “interesting”

Also, even going beyond Achtung Baby, if calling in a pre-career-renaissance Johnny Cash to sing a post-apocalyptic country song over electropop instrumentation and then just slotting it in as your album closer isn't at least "interesting," then I don't know what is.
