Interesting that MLB network this morning are saying that the key to the "rule" there is that the deflection was "UNINTENTIONAL" - meaning that all of the tweets/memes saying that an OF without a play could just 'throw the ball over the wall' and it would be called a ground rule double are bogus.

But..... does anyone see the word "unintentional" in the RULE?

Baseball Rule 5.05(a)(8) states: “Any bounding fair ball is deflected by the fielder into the stands, or over or under a fence on fair or foul territory, in which case the batter and all runners shall be entitled to advance two bases.”

I don't....? I read a rule that is missing a bit of nuance for wacky scenarios.
