They're one of those bands where there is a good deal of debate and disagreement about what their best album is. Kind of like R.E.M. in that regard, where there are 4-5 choices that it's not uncommon to hear people go to bat for. And I guess I've always been kind of surprised at that, because Transatlanticism seems like the clear masterpiece to me.

20? Damn…great record. Probably stick it at 4 behind facts, trans, and plans.

Movie Script and Blacking Out the Friction are perfect songs

what blows my mind about transatlanticism is what it became out of those demos. Sure they're close, and the melodies and structure are there, but damn was that thing elevated. I'd like to know when those demos were recorded vs when they went into the studio.

it’s basically a tie between Photo Album and Transatlanticism for me, gun to my head I would probably choose Transatlanticism tho

Gotta go with We Have the Facts and Transatlanticism as my top two

  6. Very good record that's grown on me, but it's still dead middle in my Death Cab rankings. Feels very transitional. I prefer the two before and the two after, but it's better than anything post-Plans.

I had no idea Ben released a solo record in 2012. Is it any good?

Plans is the most emotionally resonant Death Cab album for me. Transatlanticism is the best overall. Narrow Stars is the one that has grown on me most over time. Thank You for Today is just underrated.

  18. I don’t dislike any of their records. Kintsugi is their best since narrow stairs

I listened to Codes and Keys the other day and it’s far better than I remembered it. Maybe that’s me getting older and my tastes evolving.

I like Codes it was just a big step down from the level they were on the decade before.

It wasn’t amazing, but worth a listen. Granted I probably haven’t listened to it in like 7 years. I think I remember being really into Oh Woe and Duncan at the time.

Doesn’t seem to be on streaming here in the UK any more. I liked it.

  23. Codes & Keys is underrated and better than both Narrow Stairs and Kintsugi.

Don't remember much from Ben's solo album, unfortunately.

It’s almost as if the Stairs were too Narrow that they tripped and fell all the way down.
