Definitely picking up Dread. Though torn between BF or B4B for my shooter fix. Might wait for reviews.

B4B is day one for me. L4D is so good.

They are also two very different shooters.

Very true, but both appeal to me for different reasons.

All the more reason to get both!

  5. I haven't gotten tired of open worlds. Last few years I've played Fallout 4, Dragon Age Inquisition, The Witcher 3, Borderlands 3 (ugh fuck Randy Pitchford), Darksiders 3, Prey, The Outer Worlds. Is it an Ubisoft thing?

Definitely not an Ubisoft thing. I prefer limited open world stuff like Dragon Age or Mass Effect. Bloodborne too. Feels like open world with a purpose haha.

Dragon age inquisition has the best style of map, I like the contained sandboxes with options of where to go instead of one big giant map, and the mix between linear story progression and open world collectathon stuff is perfectly balanced and even collecting stuff doesn’t feel like a waste since you get power and influence from it

I think Ubisoft has a very certain style of open world map that lots of other games take cues from but it’s literally the same across all their games. clear outposts, climb towers (the slight alteration to that in far cry 5 wasn’t near enough), etc it just all feels very repetitive if you play an AC game and a far cry game and a ghost recon game and so on and so forth. even steep which I loved felt much the same. so while they aren’t the only company to make their open worlds like that, they do it more than any other company I can think of. elder scrolls and fallout open worlds feel much more interesting and worth exploring, same with the witcher 3 although that does fall prey to never ending icons to clear but the quality of main and side quests in that game makes up for any of its other shortcomings imo. Idk, I like a lot of open world games but when a series goes on for a decade plus using the same systems with a new paint job it gets old

I agree moreso for Assassins Creed than Far Cry just cause Far Cry has at least been spread out more. AssCreed being pretty annual definitely kills it for me. Far Cry I play a new one every like 5 years, that's fine with me if it's the same game just a different setting.

I’m playing divinity original sin 2 and the open world style in this game is awesome. Very little hand holding, lots to discover and so many different options in how to tackle objectives and play the game. probably the most flexible game in terms of player control I’ve ever seen in my life. you could probably accomplish a good chunk of the game without engaging in combat just by hitting the right dialogue and uncovering numerous secrets and ways of doing things. for example, a lot of people complain that you have to buy all your skills from vendors, but if you engage a vendor for bartering and break off a party member with thieves and sneaking to steal the books off the vendor you never have to pay for shit. just so many clever ways to do literally anything

I played 4 and 5 back to back very quickly so I got burnt out on it. It was years ago but I don’t feel the need to play 6. I do wanna try primal some day since it seems slightly more interesting. But I also played AC origins around that same time and tried to jump into odyssey right after and quit after about 3 hours, couldn’t do it anymore. Just massive burn out on that style of game. And now I’ve discovered and expanded the types of games I’ve played so much since then that I just would rather play other stuff than waste time on an Ubisoft game that I’ll probably enjoy decently enough but not really fall in love with. Meanwhile the games I’ve played this year for the first time (dragon age origins, divinity original sin 2, hollow knight, the witcher 3 blood and wine dlc, Celeste, hades, whatever else I’m forgetting) have really hit me in a huge way

Definitely recommend it, it’s overwhelming and I dumped probably 40-50 hours into it last winter and just started over because jumping back in was daunting but now that I’m 8-10 hours into a new save I’m picking up on so much stuff I missed and feel better equipped to take it on, because it is a lot but it’s so rewarding. and the turn based combat is the best turn based system I’ve ever seen in a game, bar none. I’m not a huge fan of turn based and I’d rank the combat as one of the best systems I’ve ever played

Oh okaay yeah that makes sense. I played 3 when it came out, 4 in like 2018, and haven't played 5 yet haha. Primal is different but if you're burned out on the style definitely wait cause it really is the exact same just a different setting haha.

There’s a huge emphasis on using the environment and how it plays into the battles, it’s a very cool system with a ton of complexity and depth especially when it comes to character builds and party builds, or you can run lone wolf which I wanna give a shot but I wanna get the stories from the companions because those are supposedly really really good. You can also play as one of the companions or “origin” character if you want and play out their individual story line yourself or start a blank slate character that basically just goes through the main story but again you can pick up origin characters for your party and go through their storylines with them. It’s just a massive amount of options in character creation and play styles. Currently running my character as a 2 handed warrior type but play on putting a few points into geomancy for some earth type spells and abilities to compliment it
