  1. Same, I feel like this will be the A Head Full of Dreams to Everyday Life. I'd love to be proven wrong.

I’m kind of afraid to listen to this. Haven’t been into anything from these guys in a decade or more.

Higher Power has grown on me every time I've heard it so I'm hoping I'll like this more than Everyday Life.

It’s pretty clear from what we’ve heard so far that this isn’t the direction I’d hoped they’d go, but I’m cautiously optimistic I’ll enjoy it anyway.

This is probably the least excited I’ve ever been about a Coldplay record.

I’ll of course listen and hope to like it, but it’s been pretty weird. Usually pretty stoked

Unrelated to the actual album, but Chris was recently on Pete Holmes’ You Made It Weird podcast and it was a really refreshing listen. It did actually make me a little more excited for the record despite not really referencing it at all.

I listened to this interview this morning. Possibly the best Chris Martin interview I’ve ever listened to actually.

It was great. It was really cool to hear about where he came from and where he’s at now, I found it highly relatable.

Threw on Everyday Life for the first time in a while. What a lovely record. “Sunrise” really does sound like a sunrise.

I'd almost swear that on Higher Power I can hear the female vocalist from The Naked and Famous

  11. Two more days

Not having a good week so it's nice of one of my favourite bands to drop an album on Friday, appreciate that lads

I enjoyed Everyday Life so much. I wonder if this will reach that level for me. Looking forward to it.

Granted I'll be hearing this Friday morning anyway but still

  14. I was wrong, but I'm not really impressed either. It sounds like a return to their usual bombastic and feel good pop self, which I expected, except it leans towards the dreaminess of Ghost Stories a lot too. It's all pleasant to the ears, especially the fantastic closer, but I don't know... nothing else wowed me so far. Maybe that'll change on further listens.

Towards the end, a certain nod made me feel quite nolstagic. Remember "Don Quixote", an unreleased song they played live around 2009/2010? The background chant in "Infinity Sign" is the same one they would make the crowd sing during the former.

Next Show: Jamie xx -- 1/12

Lots of very cool, detailed goals set and efforts being done to reduce the tour's footprint. Here are some bullet points, but all details are on: https://sustainability.coldplay.com/

    CO2 EMISSIONS
    • pledging to cut emissions by a science-led target of 50% compared to previous tour
    • avoiding fossil fuels + use clean energy & sustainable biomaterials where possible
    POWER
    • with BMW, they developed the first mobile, rechargeable show battery
    • stage production will almost entirely be ran with renewable, super-low emission energy
    • installing solar tiles on stadium floor, outer concourses, & on the stage, so movements can be converted into energy to power the show
    • super-low emissions for show transportation using Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil fuel
    TRAVEL
    • tour routed to reduce travel & freighting – with emphasis on minimizing air travel
    • for unavoidable air travel, Coldplay will pay a surcharge to use/supply Sustainable Aviation Fuel
    STAGE
    • adapting show design to use local equipment, materials, & resources
    • stage will be built from lightweight, low-carbon & re-usable materials including bamboo, & recycled steel to be reused or recycled at end of tour
    • using low-energy LED screens, laser, lighting system, & PA system
    • using sustainable pyrotechnics with new formulas that greatly reduce/eliminate harmful chemicals
    FANS
    • free tour app that encourages fans to use low carbon transport
    • fans who commit to low-carbon travel will be given a discount code to use at venues
    • based on fans’ use of the app, the total carbon footprint of travel will be calculated & Coldplay will pledge to drawdown all of these emissions
    WATER
    • a sustainability rider will ask venues to introduce aerated taps + low flushing toilets, & ask to reduce water pressure to alleviate water wastage
    • free drinking water will be available at every show, with reusable aluminum cups
    WASTE
    • working with venues to eliminate sale of single-use plastic water bottles
    • working with venues to help and encourage them to establish recycling programs
    FOOD
    • crew catering menus will have plant-based & meat-free options as standard
    • organic produce will be sourced from local suppliers or farms that practice regenerative agriculture techniques
    • partnering with local food banks to donate any surplus food
    MERCH
    • all merch will be sustainably & ethically sourced
    • all products will be sourced with vendors who prove ethical work practices including fair wages & good working conditions
    GOOD CAUSES
    • as Coldplay have always done, they will put 10% of everything earned (touring, records, publishing etc) into a good causes fund, split between environmental + socially-conscious projects & charities
    NATURE
    • the tour will still have a significant carbon footprint, so Coldplay pledge to draw down more CO2 than the tour produces by supporting environmental projects focusing on reforestation, rewilding, conservation & soil regeneration
    TRANSPARENCY
    • Coldplay commit to an ongoing measurement of their environmental impacts to make further improvements, in partnership with climate change experts, to study & publish progress
    • work with Green Nation, Live Nation’s sustainability platform, to ensure sustainable practices developed on this tour are shared, adopted & scaled throughout the rest of the industry

I don't know the last Coldplay album I listened to in full (maybe Ghost Stories?) but I was really impressed with this on first listen.

Dua Lipa should use the bicycle powered stuff for her tour. I want to ride a bike while she performs Physical.

  21. I did think that they'd be taking such steps. Not that it ended up being able to be toured anyway due to the pandemic but they said they weren't doing much around Everyday Life for this exact reason.

I enjoyed this on first listen. Not as idiosyncratically interesting as Everyday Life, but kind of pairing some of that album's adventurousness with the more pure pop bombast of Mylo and the better parts of A Head Full of Dreams.

I do kind of wish they'd make one album without interludes, though. Those little interstitials don't add much for me.

  23. Apple Music fucked the segues and I hate that but I'm nearing the end of my first listen and I'm really impressed. SO glad I waited to hear Coloratura in context.

This is solid. I’d definitely say I prefer Everyday Life overall, but Coloratura is my favorite song from either album.
